O, thanks a lot. I was thinking yesterday if I should to be CN x2/y2 from the beginning, or learn it later. And I looked into my son's way of learning Fridrich - he tried to be CN from the beginning. It was hard to him but now he's very good. After 8 months he's sub-19 ao100. This is the same what Kirajava writes in Advanced Roux thread: if you desire colour neutrality you should be doing it from the start.

Basically that. I had a really hard time switching to color neutral with CFOP, then I switched to ZZ (not for CN reasons). When I switched to Roux, I was advised to start out CN, and it's definitely quite useful (y/x2 neutrality).

currently, i am y2 neutral and it's not too bad. i'll definitely give y2 x2 a try sometime later though it'll definitely be work.

edit: after doing some solve, it doesn't seem like it will be as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

just did an average of 12, only yellow bottom blocks: 13.32, it seems like my F2B is about 2 -2.5 seconds slower and CMLL and LSE about .5 seconds slower for now.

Hm, I don't know, I remember when I switched from y2 to y2/x2. It was hard, but not that hard as [y2/x2 -> y/x2] seems.
y2/x2 definitely worth, however, I'm not so sure about y/x2... Maybe my colors became persistent for me by now.

Analyzing Alex's solves here, I realized that I have to practice ZZ more. During the second block, I use <M,R,U> moves too often, even when the solution would be easier with pure <R,U> moves (I guess it is the opposite for those who changed their methods from CFOP to Roux).

I mean particularly this (third solve):

Scramble:
D2 B L2 F' U B' U B D2 B2 U R' F' L R2 F2 D2 F

F2B:
y x' // inspection
D L' D' // Lblock
M' x' U' // LB pair
(r' L') U' R U' R U' R U' // Rblock
R2' U' R U R' U' R // Rpair

For the Rpair, I would do:
R' U (R' M') U' R U r' U' R // Rpair

Which of course far worse. I think ZZ would teach me efficient <R,U> style blockbuilding.

you're trying to get more <R,U>; I'm trying to get more <R,M,U,r>. that's pretty funny.

I think this is PB ao12 and ao5 iirc

I tink I'm starting to turn faster or something, but idk.

What kind of color neutrality is most common among top Roux users? x2/y2/z2 seems like a logical answer to me, but I don't actually use color neutrality so I wouldn't know. What I am actually looking for is how many different possible 1x2x3 blocks top Roux users have to start with. Thanks! :)

i remember rybaby made a list a while back, here it is:

I started with full color neutrality, but by around 30s I switched to x2/y neutrality (8 blocks) to aid in recognition. I think that having 4 possible starting blocks should be enough, though.
Well known users of various block options:
Fixed block: Gilles Roux?
y2 neutral: Big Green, GuRoux, Mitsuki Gunji, Neil Morales
x2/y2: Kirjava
x2/y: Alex, Waffo, Arvind
y: Arcio, Tomoya
Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these, or add new ones.

x2/y2/z2 is the same as x2/y2...

Hm, I think that is pretty common among the skips in Roux. :)

I had a one-month break from cubing. So, I thought I would do some solves. Did an AO12 yesterday. Nothing great.

Did some 20 solves today and I broke my PB MO3, AO5 and AO12. :D
