good luck! My best recommendation is to check out a lot of example/walkthrough solve videos to see how block building works.

I would think im fairly decent at block building because of my FMC experience, but we'll see about that. I think my main issue is dealing with bad CFOP F2L cases during second block with M and r moves. Probably others face this too. My L6E appears to be ok as of now, but sometimes I accidentally do UFUB instead of ULUR :p

anyway I did an ao100 just now and it was 26.70 :D
The first 25 or so solves made a 28 second average so I must be improving fast :D

If you post examples of how you would do a speedsolve in the example solve thread, not only a short FM solution (though you can do that too if you'd like!), I'd tell you (and others might too, idk) how I do certain F2B cases in ways that CFOP users wouldn't do, if I know a better solution - but there are still some cases I don't know good algs for.

Here's an example of one you may not have seen before: r U r' U r U' r'
... but there are many more. I think it's best if you find them yourself - doing untimed solves is one of the most useful things you can do - but if there's a case you're really struggling with, then you can always ask here.

E: I just reread this and I completely contradicted myself... basically what I'm trying to say is, do untimed solves to try to find better solutions to bad FB cases, but if you can't find anything then ask.

Good job! SB is the worst part.

Personally, I NEVER rotate or use F/B moves during SB, but I've been made aware of some cases where it might be faster to do so... I don't intentionally avoid them, I've just been doing Roux since day 1, so I never even consider F/B or rotations as an option during SB.

i remember your OH table abuse was pretty good.

Only for H perms heheh. I plan to stick with CFOP for OH. We'll see.

Sometimes I do F moves during SB. Example: F R2 F'

So I can no longer say that I'm sub 14... Probably because I recently became very strict about inspecting within the 15 second limit. Anyway, after a few weeks of anger and frustration ive finally accepted that im not as fast as i used to be, and that i was never actually as fast as i thought i was. so ive decided to reset all PBs as of now (shut up! of course that's aloud!). Hopefully i'll speed up smoothly now.

oh ya, also i just got an avg50 with sub 1sd... which is really awesome for me! :)

Good luck! Ive always used WCA inspection. I use 4 seconds to pick a block, 7 seconds to track it, and 2 seconds to calm down and start.

Should I start restricting myself to WCA inspection? Or will the time taken to trace a block naturally go down?

Yes and yes. When starting out, pick your block fast and make sire you have enough time to trace it. You will eventually get to a point where you take a few seconds to find your pieces and can visualize what to do.

ive been using that mentality for the last 2 years and the only significant improvement in blockbuilding came when i started to do wca inspections. another plus to inspecting quickly each time is that you can get more solves done in an average which is always a positive :)

True! In the ao 12 I uploaded a while ago, I remember rushing through scrambles and inspection so that my phone wouldnt turn off (5 minutes then off). Recently, ive been using more and more inspection trying to trace up to DL edge and find my first pair. Usually it works, but sometimes I ditch the pair for the other one if its faster.

25.35 ao100!

How do you guys do your first block such that it's nicely on the left? Often I find that the fingertrick-iest solution makes the block on some odd angle...

Speaking of which, what is a good move count for a 2x2x1 and a 1x2x3?

For 1x2x3, 9 STM will get you sub 10. For the second 1x2x3, 16 STM.

Within reason, awkward fingertricks become less awkward with repetition. So just by doing those awkward blocks you'll get you good at 'em.

Thanks guys!

One more question, sometimes when I'm doing EO during L6E, I get the 3 mover 4 flip case and I notice that one of my D layer edges is already solved and the other one can be solved while doing EO without additional moves, thus giving an edge PLL. Is that worth doing?
