When I go to My Content to see my past postings, I see that there are two tabs to view "results" from. Google Search Results and Community Search Results.

I never see any "results" (my posts) show up with Google Search Results, but yet that is the default tab that is selected.

So @pjk, if this is the case for everyone, can you make it so that the default tab is Community Search Results? Because I have to re-select the Community Search Results, every time I go to the next page of post search results.

Or is there some place in settings I missed to change this myself?

I've had this issue as well
I would also like if the community results were the default.
Per your guys suggestion, I've changed it to default to the community search results. I find the community results significantly worse than the Google results. For example, if I type in "pll algs", nothing useful comes up for the default community research, but Google pulls up the best pages.

Can you guys give me some query examples that you notice return better/more useful results? Thanks.

The Google results are completely blank when trying to look up a single user's posts. I guess this is because the search query is empty, or something like that? E.g. for my own posts, I get:

The Google results are nice most of the time, but it can't handle things like searching posts made by a specific user (which the community search can handle, and I use it from time to time).

I prefer this because, if I want to do a Google search, I'll just do a Google search, outside this site. This way is much more convenient. Why would you use this site to do a Google search when you could just do it in another window and the interface is better there? But when I want to do a search on this site, it's the community search I care about. And that is tremendously useful for some things (mainly looking for specific posts that you know exist, but were done years ago).

Wait this is a thing?
Whenever I looked at my content in the past, it defaulted to community.

Search was google though I think (which I actually prefer over community). The community ones don’t really match up (I searched up PLL algs and it came up with this thread because it was mentioned)

Also, the google search limits to forums and wiki posts I believe.

One thing I have used the search for a lot in the past couple of years was to look for the specific thread for a given competition week. I was always able to enter into the search box "2018-10", for instance, and find it with no trouble. The google search results didn't find it successfully at the time, but the community ones did.

Now, I just tried entering "2018-10", and the community search results apparently wants to split this up (even if it's in quotes) and tells me it will leave "10" out of the search. Something has changed - this used to work fine - I've used it lots of times in the past. It has been quite a few months since I last did this, so I don't know when it changed, but certainly it was working a year ago.

The google search results for this are particularly bad. Even though it doesn't do the weird split-up thing (but rather leaves "2018-10" together like I want), instead of finding the forum post, it finds all the competition web pages that contain it first, including the personal pages for everyone who competed that week.

Edit: I had never seen the Threadloom results option. I tried that, and my desired forum post was second on the list. So I guess that is the best way to get there now. Interesting. The search is definitely very different now than it was the last time I tried it, so maybe my opinion about the community being first no longer applies. Since the community option doesn't work as well as it used to, it's probably no longer applicable.

Yes, years ago everyone was suggesting the community search results weren't good, hence why we switched to Google CSE. It returns much more useful results for general purpose stuff like "f2l algs" or "best cube to buy", but doesn't work for searching for users posts like you said. The community search works much better in that case.

Generally people use the search here to find content related to what they want, like f2l algs. The community results were terrible. But, per these suggestions, I've changed the default, let me know if it works okay or if you have other suggestions.

I also prefer the Google CSE, but I will set the default to whatever the community wants. The goal of the search is to find whatever you're looking for, so I will work on providing whatever changes you guys suggest. Please keep the suggestions coming about the site so we can keep making good changes.
