[Help Thread] Pyraminx Discussion

Hey!
I'm aaveraging around 5 seconds with lbl/keyhole and have started to learn 1-flip. My question is, how do I make my transition from the alg to the l3e better? Is there a way I can make this better or will it come just from practice?

Pyraminx - How fast can you get with Keyhole?

Hey together

So, before I start, I'm Tobi and this is my first Thread in this Forum.

I'm very obsessed with the Pyraminx. I solve it a hundred times a day if not more (which is not much if you're fast enough, but well...)
I solve it with the Keyhole Method (means solve two edges, get 2 corners in the correct position, insert last piece of First Layer, Solve Last Layer... Just the normal Keyhole).

I get faster every day, but before I tell you my best avg100 I wan't to ask you, what is the fastest you can get with the Keyhole?
Is it a good method?

Thanks

Ok, with 6.39, I'm far away from this...
Which method is then the best?
I started to learn 1-Flip, but I can't imagine, that you're better with this method. Because, you could not do less moves or steps...

none really is the best
people who learn methods like keyhole just learns a few top first methods and do whatever based on the scramble

The easier 1-flip cases are more than worth it.
I think the general tactic is to know well the easy cases of top-first methods like WO, 1-flip, Oka, etc. and then figure out in inspection which method has the easiest case :)

Help!
I want to be sub-9/8 even down to sub-7 in like a week for Pyraminx.
Currently I use LBL method and average 9 seconds with it. Is it possible to get to sub-7 with LBL?
I tried WO method but only ever got 11 second average at the least with it. Is there a really easy to learn method that can get me sub-8 at least in a week. Should I keep using LBL and learn new techniques to get me faster or a new method? Are there easy tutorials for these methods? How much should I practice to lose a second or two off my times in less than a week?

Thank you for help...

I'm not that great at Pyra but I only got my first ever pyra about a month ago and I'm already sub-7 with it so definitely doable.

What I did was learn Oka and 1-flip methods. I now usually use 1-flip now but if I can't find a good start in inspection I just use Oka. If I have to use Oka I usually get 7-9s solve and with 1-flip 5-7s. So Oka is kind of my backup plan :P

I just did a s**tload of solves and REALLY FORCED myself to look deeper in to the solve during inspection. You should try to be able to see whole top+centers in inspection preferably. After you can do that sub 8 should be quite easy

Pyraminx Help?

Hello
I just received my pyraminx yesterday and decided to skip LBL and learn keyhole directly. I can solve now with keyhole but im confused with getting the third edge in place after putting all the centers on the bottom. So my problem is that after I finish the top with the two edges and use the keyhole to put all centers on bottom, I don't know which way to put in the third edge. I know you can put the correct edge under the slot and perform R L R' L' or L' R' L R. What I do now is I try it one way and if it doesn;t work I undo the moves and try it the other way. Can someone help?
Thanks

What is the average number of moves required to build two thirds of a top? (Is there a name for this btw?)

I've gone through 25 random state scrambles (without tips) and my mean was 1.96. I required 3 or 4 moves 6 times in the session. Every time I used 4 moves, it was a fast and easy to execute solution e.g. L R' L' R unlike e.g. U L R B.

Anyone else getting similar results? Or maybe my sample size is just too small.

Random thing I decided to do with 20 random scrambles. Feel free to try the scrambles and post. I just did what I would do in a normal solve i.e. I didn't sit here for hours finding optimal solutions.

1) What are average movecounts for LBL, keyhole, and 1-flip?

2) If you're using all three of these, how do you decide which method to use for a given scramble? (of course, the answer to this would be different for different people probably)

I'm really struggling to find a good Pyra method because of these things:

  • I can plan out tops much better than Vs in inspection.
  • I hate LBL last layer algs (except 2 flip).
  • I hate the step in keyhole where you insert the last edge for the top.
  • I take way too long to do intuitive L4E, and I'm not even sure what proper L4E is.
  • I hate doing RU/LU in general.

Any suggestions?

Pyraminx LBL Algs Help!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on the site for a while.

So I have another competition coming up, (Cubes4Speed MOX Summer 2015), and I'm looking to do good in Pyraminx. I know that if I start learning another method I wouldn't be quick enough in time to get most times faster than my LBL times. On LBL, I average around 10 seconds, and need some new last layer algorithms that may potentially be quicker.
Please reply with the most advanced LBL last layer algs. The competiton is in 3 weeks, and pyra is my favorite event. Methods I should try?
Thanks!
-Riley

The algs I use are:

2 Flip: R' L R L' R U' R' U
CC Rotation: L' U L U L' U L
C Rotation R U R' U R U R'
The other ones:
R' L R L' U' L' U L
L R' L' R U R U' L'

For 2flip: R' L R L' U L' U' L

otherwise your algs seem fine.

If you're planning on getting serious aout pyra I recommend learning the keyhole method. It's a top first method which makes it easier to learn the more advanced methods afterwards
