One-Answer WCA Competition and Regulations Question Thread

The solution would be painting/dyeing all the pieces instead of only the ones of one face?

Hmmm it's a bit of an awkward situation... I'm not sure if the regulations are entirely clear since the introduction of "stickerless" puzzles. Personally I don't see how it would be against the regulations to paint/dye every face.

I've notified the WRC of this to get their views.

Gee wizz did we open a can of worms when we allowed stickerless cubes. Wasn't thought through at all...

I've just ordered a stickered yuhu, so just for thought for the WCA... why dyeing one face should make the puzzle ilegal if (*) those dyed pieces could not be distinguished from the rest of the pieces apart from the color?

(*) Let's assume (I have no idea) that the dyed pieces would have a durable solid color while maintaining the same texture of the other pieces.

Do cube rotations count in fewest moves

They count against your 80 move limit, but they don't count against your total move number. So if I use a rotation in my solve, I have a maximum of 79 moves that I can use, but if I use them all, my total will be 79, not 80.

WCA ID Help

I have seen many WCA IDs and I've seen that the last two digits are generally 0, and some single digit number. But I don't understand what that means.

Example- 2009ZEMD01

In this ID, 2009 is the year of the person's first competition
ZEMD stands for Zemdegs
But what about 01 in the end. I don't have an ID of my own so i don't understand that

The first 4 numbers are the year, the four letters are the first four letters of their name (and the first letter or two of their first name if their surname is less than four letters) and the last two numbers indicate how early they registered in that year. E.g. 2013CHEN93 would make them the 93rd person to register in 2013.

The 93rd person whose last name begins Chen.

Actually, yellow goes on top.

In fact, the exact wording of the regulations is, in absence of white and / or green, lighter colour goes on top and darker adjacent colour goes in front, right?
Which is funny because my green is lighter than my blue but, in that case, as I have green, it should still be green in front, correct? In fact, I think my darker colour is red.

I think you just keep black on top instead of white [emoji14]

Why would you think this when the answer is so easily available?
From Regulation 4d1:
4d1) NxNxN puzzles and Megaminx are scrambled beginning with the white face (if not possible, then the lightest face) on top and the green face (if not possible, then the darkest adjacent face) on the front.

Note that the scrambling orientation for other puzzles (pyra, sq-1, skewb, clock) is not defined in this regulation, but instead in the other regulations in 4d.

What is the process in registering for a WCA competition and what happens on the day?

Hi all,

I have registered for the Sydney Summer 2015 competiton and I am a first time WCA competitor. Just wondering what is the process when you register and how do they give you your WCA name and what is the usual process pre-competition and on the day.It would be great if you give me some advice.
