One-Answer Software Question Thread

How can I display stuff about myself in my posts? (By that, I mean the information under the text in my post. An example is the very first thread poster, ThomasJe, who has put all of his PB's in that information area)

Is there a program like Cube Explorer for puzzles like 4x4 and 5x5?

I don't believe there's one that is available online. Some members may have a self programmed one so you could as around people like Chris, Lucas etc.

They will probably also be a fair bit more memory intensive and take longer cause the puzzle becomes exponentially more complex as they get larger.

Is there software available for finding more complex algorithms?

I was messing around with Cube Explorer and noticed that, while I can find algorithms for complete solves or solves with some cubies omitted, I can't seem to find a way to generate algorithms that only solve certain facelets (e.g. OLL algs), as the program tells me that I'm missing some facelet colors and have to fill them in. I noticed there's a "pattern editor," but I have no idea what it does, and the help file is blank :|

Is there some way to do this that I'm missing?

Thanks!

I also noticed it gives a different pattern when holding shift and clicking rather than ctrl--what is the difference between the two?
Also, is there a way to allow more than one color to occupy a square (for example, orienting LSE, where the LL edges can be either white or yellow)?

So shift and click tells it to solve permutation and to disregard orientation. For that, you have to use the color picker tool, and then shift-click each sticker in its correct color on the piece that you want to end up permuted. This is useful for stuff like CPLS algs to end up with a 2GLL

As for stuff like LSE, you can still just use control, even if you end up with like 6 edges. I think the color doesn't mean necessarily U-xolor, it just means oriented relative to that colored face....I'm not sure, but suffice it to say that it can do LSE algs by using control-click.

Yes.

I have a 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 solver. My 4x4x4 requires a machine with 32 GB of RAM. My 5x5x5 requires 128 GB of RAM.

You can see after completing depth 11 it examined over 147 quadrillion nodes. That's 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 x 1,000 in American math.

Orientation algorithm generator program?

Hi all,

I am currently using Cube Explorer 5.12 to generate 3x3 algorithms, but I need a more advanced program that is capable of generating generalized orientation algorithms. The constraints are much more complicated than 'direct solve'. In the case of orient-only, pieces are free to move around as long as their orientation is solved. Is such a program readily available?
