I've always wanted to learn to solve a Rubik's cube but never took the time or even had a cube. I received a cheap knock off during a cheap gift exchange and learned how to solve it using the what I assume to be the most basic method, layer by layer. I asked for an actual Rubik's brand cube for a Christmas gift (I wish I would have read more before asking for that and not another type) and after receiving it I've been working with the same method and trying to improve the movements and speed mainly.
I'm fully aware that I'm going to have to progress past this method to get faster at solving. I'm hoping to be able to get under a minute by July for a local friendly competition during a church outing. I went ahead and ordered a Zhanchi, regular and sticker less to work with. I'm just not sure where to go from here on getting faster. Learn more algorithms? Figure out a different method, which I assume means still learning more algorithms?
Hoping to read more here and watch more videos to help with the learning process. I guess I didn't realize how large the cubing community was until I started doing some reading.
