[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

You dont need to know really know how to solve a megaminx but only its last layer. You can do everything intuitively by just expanding the f2l.

I just purchased a white Dayan minx without ridges, as the ones with ridges were out of stock. Occasionally, I find it difficult to exert sufficient force with my fingers to turn sides that have locked up, though my fingers don't seem to be slipping off the corners during turns. So I'm just wondering if there's any need to change to one with ridges if I become accustomed to turning a minx without ridges.

Re: Megaminx Thread

Mega splits
F2l - 35.6
S2L - 48.8
LL - 18.9
Total -103.3, I usually average around 1:45mins, and find it hard to progress, look ahead on the f2l phase is like a nightmare for me every time. how the heck do I progress?
Divine skulls, odder, anyone?

Just like in 3x3, do slow solves with F2L and S2L, and make sure to try to be as efficient as possible. Obviously you won't be nearly optimal, but it's good for finding new ways to solve cases. Going slow will also improve your lookahead. Odder will probably have more words of wisdom than I do, if he sees this. :)

I gotta ask. Have the companys stopped to make megaminxes in the size of the old ones? Like mefferts you know. I love my dayan megaminx turning quality but I really hate the size of it so I thought if they would make a megaminx like the dayan WITH the same size as the mefferts I would definetely change megaminx. Therefore I look around and I found a shengshou with the size of 71mm and a mf8 v3 with the size of 72.8... The size really matters for me so I think that's bad :(

If you still need advice, I suggest focusing on either F2L or S2L at one time. Either way, your times will still drop because of the increased speed during the F/S2L phases. Other than that, force yourself to look for other pieces and don't stop. I personally find that slow turning on minx doesn't help very much. Try everything and see which one helps you the most.

Re: Megaminx Thread

I'll surely try that. I'm trying to get used to looking ahead on the Megaminx. Seems very difficult to look ahead on the f2l part, s2l look ahead for me has improved a little bit. so, for Megaminx, there's absolutely nothing I can do apart from working on looking ahead, to improve, after getting to sub 1:40s right?
