[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

Do you have any good algs for the adjacent 2 + 2 cases?

L' R U2 R' U' (sexy)x2 U' L U R U' R'
E-Perm [but I do a z' so its <L,U,R> instead of <U,R,D> because D is sorta hard to do on mega]
R- U' R' U L U' R U F2' R U R' Dr R U' R' Dr' F2 [The first D you use your left pinky to push up. The second D, i usually rotate and do R' U2]

Those are the ones I use anyway.
I got them from sirwaffle and nick rech cubing world videos

When should I start learning megaPLL? I'm averaging around 1:15 right now

I just wondered when you "should" start learning it, it's possible to start learning when your sup 3 but it's pretty much worthless since there are better ways to improve

I don't think anyone's ever going to say you HAVE to do anything. If you want to learn a thing to get faster, do it. Or practice S2L techniques. Or work on finding and planning Star during inspection. You have plenty of things you can always do to shave seconds off your average. You SHOULD do them all if you want to get as fast as you can be.

What are the average movecount for a standard megaminx solve? Does Westuld, Balint, or Yu-da Hyun blockbuilding(?) have the fewest moves?

I just counted 5 of my solves and got these splits
F2L -- S2L - LL - Total
(49) + 88 ---+ 30 -= 167
42 --+ 89 ---+ 31 -= 162
(40) + (88) -+ (21) = (149)
45 --+ 102 -+ (31) = 178
46 --+ (106) + 27 -= (179)
---------------------------
44.3 + 93 --+ 29.3 = 169

Note that this is with a (probably stupid) method.
2x2x2 + (1x2x2)x4 Sort of like heise I guess?
ZZ-Spike
3LL + some random PLLs

I think I use the second of these, does anybody have a good description of the third?
Basically, you build the F2L, then completely an around a centre directly adjacent to the first one so that you end up with 4 faces left to finish (3 more S2L and the LL). I sort of came up with it (though not before Yu Da Hyun I don't think but she never posted details (as far as I am aware) so this is more or less what the community worked out she does) and I prefer it as it can cut down on rotations and lookahead as well as the number of turns to move an average piece to a given face more quickly (at least in my experience).

Do any fast people use Mega OLL? i know the F sexy F' ones but that's pretty much it. I always thought it was useless since 2gen CO is so fast, but there should be some good cases worth learning, right?
