How:

While inserting 1 pair, be looking for a corner or edge piece of the next pair that you want to make. This could even be as simple as just finding one of the two. Once you find that piece, then you track it and then find the corresponding edge or corner. I usually look for a corner first because the color of the bottom layer *sticks* out the most to me.

thats is a "how to"!!!

Look ahead tips

Hey! I'm new to cubing, about 3 months of it. I'm getting an average of a minute or so, and I realize the reason I'm getting high times is because of F2L. I'm trying to look ahead, and when I do I usually get around 55 seconds, and even got 48 seconds! (woo!)

Just wondering if there are any tips on look ahead! Thanks!

Just tried this out, it's helping me amazingly. PB ao5 and 12. Tricky to get used to, but I'm going to keep trying this.

Thank you :D

OMG,that is soooo amazing. :D Dude,thank you so much,you are a genius.

I'm glad it helped you guys out. It was weird when I found that out 'cause I felt like it was so obvious. :)

List of ways I thought were at least semi-useful to me:
- Turn slower, but more fluid (generic advice, but it works)
- Metronome (I didn't personally use it much, but a friend of mine uses it all the time and he says it works, so...)
- Stop timing yourself, or at least do so more often. Seriously, simply doing casual solves, messing around the cube and trying to find a few tricks actually helps a lot...

Help with looking ahead/general tips?

So, i have been speed cubing for about 5-6 months now, and i average about 28-29 seconds (3x3 Dayan Zhanchi, lubed ect) but I'm stuck, I keep solving cubes with the intent of becoming faster but deep down i know im going to have to start practicing different things :fp

stats:
F2l average: 16 - 21 seconds
LL average: 7-9 seconds

I know i need to start looking ahead but i find it difficult so my question is this forum.
Do you have any specific method of looking ahead? if So what is it? I know of some techniques to practice but do you have anymore? Also is there any F2L tricks i can learn as well as Forced OLL skips maybe? Any help would be much appreciated.

My average is about the same as yours (about 25-27) but I get sub-20 on occasion (when I have a really fluid solve with minimal pauses). For look ahead I have corner first preference I spot out my corner for the next F2L pair and while im solving the current pair I look to see if I can spot the edge to match the corner and make that pair and repeat. Im sure at your average that for the most part you can pair and insert your F2L pairs blind this is a must to look ahead well. Of course theres the always heard turn slower and look ahead. You want to turn slow enough that you can watch the pieces your tracking or see what you got to do next. But you want to turn fast enough that your moving through the steps at a decent rate. If you can do your F2L without any pause turning at a specific speed then try upping your speed just a little bit and see if you can still track your pairs.

You can try to multi slot blind that would help your understanding of how the pieces move so you can track your pieces better for looking aheaad. Our last layers are about the same speed (I average about 8 seconds for last layer) and I think for your average your last layer is good. (Ive heard your LL should be about 1/3 the time of your total solve 8/28 is pretty close to 1/3 so you have a fair last layer) Also how is your cross? This may seem small and may not affect you much but if you have like a 6 second cross (a bit of an exageration but still) and your F2L is 10-15 seconds then you should really work on your cross as its significantly slower then the rest of your solve.

If you have access to a way to record yourself it would really help you if you record a small average (ao5 or ao12) and post it here to get advice from others on where your solves can be improved the most. Also if you can get someone to reconstruct your solve and really show you your tps your effieciency in F2L and eveything that could be benificial.

anyway im in no way a great cuber but im just giving you the advice I try to take myself (and when I actually do it I get low 20s (like 22-24) averages) Good luck and keep practicing
