I've seen a lot of people make these, I figured it was about time to make one myself :)

Here are my current stats (March 2023)

3x3
Average: 28 seconds
PB: 20.01
Method: CFOP
Main (my only 3x3 speedcube at the moment 🤣): WR M 2021 Maglev
Goal: 26 second average

I am currently working on (1) learning full PLL and (2) lookahead/advanced F2L

2x2
Average: 6-7 seconds
PB: I think it was around 1-2 seconds
Method: Ortega
Main: Gan 251 M Pro
Goal: 5-6 second average

I don't put much time into 2x2, although I think it is fun. At this point, with ortega, I don't think you can get faster than 4-5 seconds, so I practice a bit each day to try to achieve 5 seconds.

Pyraminx
Average: 11-13 seconds
PB: 9 seconds
Method: I use the beginner's method and I plan the first centers intuitively, based on how many edges I can save on the first face.
Main: Yuxin little magic
Goal: 8-9 second average

I recently started learning pyraminx and I think it is really fun. After reaching ~6 seconds I think I want to learn a more advanced method. Right now, I spam solves in order to become more fluent at the last layer/plan the first face more intuitively.

4x4

C O M I N G S O O N !

I recently started learning 4x4. I don't time myself because I want to get used to creating centers and edges without the added pressure of keeping track of time. All I need to do now is learn the parity algorithms and get more comfortable at creating centers and edges (perhaps more intuitively) and then I will be ready to start timing myself.

Megaminx

C O M I N G S O O N !

I'm really slow at megaminx but I think it is super fun. I am looking forward to learning an actual method other than beginners+intuitive F2L (Right now, I don't even think what I do is an actual method 🤣)

I want to start learning 5x5 soon!

For Fun
Kilominx
Average: 2-3 (minutes, not seconds unfortunately)
PB: ???
Method: Beginners?
Main: ShengShou
Goal: not sure
Redi Cube
Average: 45 seconds to 1 min
Method: Beginners?
Main: Moyu Redi Cube (duh :p)
Goal: 40-45 second average

I hope that the Redi Cube gets added to the WCA (kilominx too)

anyway, sorry for the long post! i'll be updating this as needed!
I think this is a great way to keep track of improvement :)

yay!
good luck on improving

I'm gonna follow this thread

I was going to say, focus on 3x3 pll and then oll, don't procrastinate learning algs, I learned all of it in like 9 or 10 months an got sub20 in that time span.
f2l lookahead is not something you "learn" like, "oh I gonna sit here and study/learn lookahead" I think is something you develop and perfect with tons of practice. I find so silly when people say that they will learn lookahead, or say you should learn lookahead when you are subX. just practice and it will come naturally. find your own balance of fast tps and pauseless solving

for advanced f2l, I would say that FIRST you should know how to solve each case instantaneously. you should just look at the case and know how to solve it. drill the cases. then you can think on advanced f2l like rotationless inserts, non standard inserts (non intuitive, algorithmic and finger tricky ways of inserting pairs) and keyhole (this is ultra handy).

a tip: when I was learning f2l I would just scramble the cube and solve the cross. then I grabbed the 42 f2l and if I didn't know a case I would just apply the algorithm trying to learn. I knew intuitive but i was pretty bad at it and memorizing each alg helped me to get faster. you can't develop your alg on the fly every time and expect to be fast.

another tip: scramble your cube with just <L, U, R> and solve the cross. then you should know how to solve the f2l without rotating. I improved A LOT with this exercise. you'll will force yourself to find new ways to solve each pair because you may be used to solve the standard way but by doing this exercise you will learn how to solve 2 gen when possible.

good luck and keep posting here :3

Also, what's your opinion on metronome practicing?
That is a little controverse topic.
Some people think it is silly others say it helped them.
I tried in the past when a lot of people advocate it but I didn't adapt. =\
but I think the only way to know is to try by yourself and see if it helps you

Alright guys, i'm getting a clock and a megaminx tomorrow (YJ YuHu as recommended by @Garf) I want to start my megaminx journey as soon as possibe and I am really looking forward to it!

Some people dislike clock but I haven't tried it out yet. It looks interesting and I've been wanting to learn about it for a while. I got a Shengshou one because I didn't want to make a commitment by paying a lot of money for a QiYi one.

I made a thread asking about speedsolving the megaminx and as soon as I get it tomorrow I will review things people have said and watch recommended videos.

The only thing I'm unsure about is what method i'll use.

Any suggestions?

Pins up the gear closest to that pin-up moves four clocks, pin down moves only the corner one.
The method is to make a cross with the middle edges on one side, flip it over and solve the cross on the other side, then match the cross clocks with the corner clocks. Jperm has a tutorial on it.

Alright, I think I want to change my 3x3 practice a bit.

I feel like i'm worrying too much about f2l right now. I've been working on lookahead but it's just to early to dive into advanced stuff, although I want to keep a basic understanding to make it easier for me in the future.

I don't even know full PLL yet, i'm working on it though. My problem is that I am not working on it enough. I've noticed that the difference between a good solve and a bad solve is my 2-look pll (and oll, but I don't need full oll yet).

Sometimes I get good solves, like 25-26 seconds, and sometimes they're pretty bad for me, like 29-32 seconds. I feel like my solve times vary too much because of my accuracy with pll.

so, my plan now is to get a solid pll base before getting into advanced stuff.

Does anybody disagree?

Why would I disagree?

I was just wondering if anybody had anything they thought I should change about it
not really, I agree with you

learning full pll can cut your times a ton

and f2l is important but it takes a while to optimize so you can focus on pll and grind f2l at the same time

I just started clock, it is simple but fun!

I am using the Shengshou clock and it is working well for me so far.

I started clock yesterday and here are my results from today:
Current Ao5: 33.7
PB: 28.79

I'm excited to improve!
I want to buy a clock but it will be the qiyi magnetic.

So far, i've been practicing untimed solves because timing adds the extra pressure and i'm new. I feel like I'm getting more comfortable with it though.
I will do untimed solves for a while because I'm practicing yau.
I'm into pyraminx and 4x4 these days :3
practicing other events is what motivates me with cubing lately
