I don't do them intuitively yet, though I should eventually. I use the edge pairing algorithm to make three cross edges, then do the centers, then the last cross edge.
hmm
I did some yau solves but I didn't time it yet, i did only slow solves with it
but as you don't have the centers to worry during the 3 cross edges creation you can use less moves to make them
this video helps a lot

Megaminx, Pyraminx, and 2x2 Update

Megaminx

Instead of pairing 2 edges to 1 corner (absolute beginner's method), I have learned S2L. I want to take some time to get comfortable with S2L. Then, I will branch off to one of the more intermediate S2L methods. I'm really enjoying megaminx so far. I didn't like it that much before because I was extremely slow and my megaminx was terrible. I now use the YuHu and it is amazing... and i'm still in shock that it is only 12 dollars.

Pyraminx
I have gotten better at planning the first 3 centers based on edges that could be saved.
I watched a video by Drew Brads. He said that using the beginner's method, you could get somewhere like sub-7 after a couple hundred solves.
After I reach the 7/8 second mark I will start looking into advanced methods.
New PB: 7.37 (previously 9 seconds)

2x2

I have gotten so much better at being efficient with my first face (ortega) that I cut my average time by 1-2 seconds. I used to average 6-7 seconds, now I average 5-5.50 seconds. I can plan the whole face during inspection. Now, I need to learn how to predict OLL and PBL so I don't pause during solves.
PBs
Ao5: 4.95
Ao12: 5.36
Ao100: 6.16

heyy!

nice progress on mega

your pyra pb is faster than mine (11sec)
I have to practice more pyra

and your pb avg100 on 2x2 is better than my current avg100. I'm a little rusty on 2x2 but I'll get there

keep going

Awesome! One question for 2x2: Can you predict from inspection/while solving if you’re going to get a “bar” on the bottom? Cause knowing that can help a lot.

New Deliberate (Daily/Almost Daily) Practice Routine (3x3)

My deliberate practice used to be a couple of slow solves here and there, which was not helpful. I've established a new 3x3 practice routine:
F2L
1. 2-gen practice using R and U moves (2-gen is a scramble on CS timer. 2-gen using R and U moves means that the scramble only generates R and U moves. Essentially, when you are finished scrambling the cube, the cross is solved except for one piece and there are only to F2L slots left to solve (on the right). This is great for lookahead practice.
2. 2-gen practice using L and U moves (Cubehead made a video on 2-gen practice. I don't think he mentioned doing it on the left side, but I need a lot of practice only using the left side. I've learned so much by using the left side only for this part of practice in one day.)
3. Slow practice (without a timer). It helps a lot because I can experiment with different f2l cases without the added pressure of a timer.
4. Algorithms. I have started learning a couple of helpful algorithms for difficult cases.
PLL
1. Learn 1 set of algs and their fingertricks (example of a set: Aa and Ab)
2. Drill those algorithms a few times
3. Use a PLL trainer to help with recognition of those algorithms+algorithms that were recently learned

The only event that I actually have a practice routine for is 3x3. Can anyone tell me the best practice routine for a beginner megaminx/4x4 practice session? (and pyraminx)
Thanks!

Hey nice routine!
I'm learning tons of algs this month but I want to do slow solves and just grind solves to get better

For mega I would say to learn all 4lll if you didn't yet and watch a lot at videos with tips for f2l and s2l then just grind timed solves. Mega is long so i don't think it's much useful to do slow solves

For 4x4 learn oll and pll parity shortcuts like how specific oll+parity and pll+parity cases can be solved efficiently and tips for centers and edge pairing. Watch tons of video with tips and do lots of slow solves for a while to get used to the new techniques then just grind timed solves

For pyra learn l3e then intuitive l4e then grind solves. Not much mistery in this one
