Hi, this thread is for all those fun facts that you can't tell anyone because nobody understands cubing. It just has to be in some, way, shape, or form related to cubing (so not like the thread created by @Aerma).

I'll start. In the WCA rulebook, there's a set of rules for how many moves the optimal solution must be to be considered a useable scramble. For pyraminx, it's 6. Guess how many moves the WR is. It's 6.

Note: man I need to get to bed it's 2:00 AM.

5-7 and megaminx scrambles can be 2 moves from solved, according to the subregulations following the one brodo mentioned.

  • 4b3e) 5x5x5 Cube, 6x6x6 Cube, 7x7x7 Cube, and Megaminx: sufficiently many random moves (instead of random state), at least 2 moves to solve.
Same with 3x3
Why do they even bother with this rule if realistically it will never, ever need to be considered? Even if it's just for formality's sake - why only 2 moves?

I agree that it would be more moves. But it's there so that in the extremely unlikely case you get a 1 move scramble, you can't just lift your hands off the stackmat and put them right back in for a +2, giving you a no-skill WR. You might say it's faster to just do the turn (and it is), but I would for the +2 option because of nerves.

Fun Fact:
If you were to dedicate enough computing power to it, a computer could create all new kinds of 1LLL variatons, with some that are easy to recognize!

Fun fact: there are only 4 events that the winner of US Nationals 2019 was not the North American Record Single holder in that same event in the beginning of COVID, and only one event that the winner of Nats was not the NAR holder of single OR average.
