Hey all, I just started cubing last week and I can't put it down! When I saw a YouTube video on Roux I knew it had to be my method, the cube looks so sexy the way it comes together with this method. anyway I average 1:40 with a personal best on 1min flat. Is it too early to start learning full cmll? Also my slowest steps are def block building (both 1 and 2) and I'm having trouble following the sample block builds on page 53; I follow the scrambles but don't understand what the "inspection" axis means . Any insight would be appreciated as in most videos, the moves are too fast for me to follow. Hopefully I'll get better at recognizing the moves in videos, and the logic behind them as I practice more.

First of all, welcome, and good choice with Roux!

For starting block building, I generally keep the blue center on the left during inspection, and set up my first edge to go right below the blue center. I think when I first started, I was losing track of the center, so that really helped me keep from getting totally lost.

As for CMLL, I started at about 50 second average, which most people consider too early. It will slow you down at first, but if you are thinking of the long term, I don't see a problem with starting CMLL early. Just do like 1 set a week (Like, Anti-sune one week, Sune the next week, etc...).

(also, does this mean I'm not the newest Rouxer anymore? Woot!)

Try looking at alex's solves by the moves rather than by video: http://cubesolv.es/?query=alexander+lau.

The inspection part means what rotations are done between finishing the scramble and starting the solve. You can find a guide to the notation here, in case you're not familiar with it. Learn CMLL whenever you feel like it, but you're probably better off focusing on blocks for now, so I'd say stick with 2-look CMLL. I still don't know the sune and anti-sune sets, so it's by no means something you need to rush to finish.

I wouldn't personally endorse this - try not to have any fixed way to build your blocks (I guess it might be different if you always make the first block with one colour, though). Check out the link GuRoux posted for some great examples of different ways to build blocks, as well as looking at other Roux solvers' reconstructions on there too (just search "roux" and they'll come up). Waffle has some good walkthrough videos as well that might help.

I use COLL for all cases except sune/anti-sune.
I learned "proper" CMLL for anti-sune, and for sune I just mirror the anti-sune CMLL.
When should I learn the rest of CMLL and CMLL for sune? I average ~30.

btw is Roux pronounced "roh", "rue", or some totally different way? I've always said "roe" but someone told me it was "roh".

It's pronounced "roo" like kangaroo.

I think Sub 30 is recommended, but, to me, the sooner the better for CMLL

I completed learning all the CMLL algs yesterday and this happened. :o BTW, Both PB AO5 and AO12. the 12th solve would have been sub-14 if not for the lockups.

I was wondering if you guys could watch my walkthrough solves and give me any advice. I also posted this as a help video, but if you think it's too poor to benefit new solvers, let me know, and I'll revise or take it down.

Nice solves. For the first one, i think you can solve eo by doing M2 and solving the arrow. Your first block and second blocks are actually pretty efficient. Only thing is to start practicing one looking the first block and try to look ahead in the second block for more efficient solves. I think all you need to do is practice your recognition and you'll keep imrpoving.

Thanks, yeah, I should spend more time inspecting and trying to figure out my final edge-corner on the first block. I appreciate the feedback.

Oh, and you're so right about the EO case. I never noticed I could do that... just M2 to the arrow. I feel dumb, haha.

New PB single. Try this scramble. CMLL skip, BTW.
