Wow... New PB!

Avg5: 12.30
Avg12: 13.48

First 12 is Avg12, last 5 is Avg5:
13.41, 12.95, 12.07, 18.18, 13.67, 12.78, (18.44), 14.51, 11.70, (10.79), 11.46, (14.11), 13.73

Usually I do once or twice a sub-12 in 50 solves. That 11-10-11 in a row was insane!
"Oh look, a sub-12, nice."
"Woow, a sub-11! Awesome!"
"What the heck?! Now I jumped from sub-15 to sub-12 suddenly?!" (Unfortunately, not. :) )

sometimes, improvement comes in bursts.

Block Building Help in Roux

I know that there are already a lot of forums that have this main topic (I've raided them), and there's a lot of first and second block examples in the Roux Help and Discussion Thread around page 53, but how they got the first and second block still confuses me. Is there a good understandable link for me to go on to get better at block building? Also, if this question was repeated somewhere in almost the same words, or central idea, this thread can be deleted (can it be?).

I guess some F2L will help for odd cases. I sometimes use F2L cases for block building. I used to use a lot of F2L when I used Roux, then got interested in CFOP and use CFOP. But still practice ROux, so F2L might help :)

Lars Petrus has a nice page for explaining and showing the basic moves of blockbuilding:
http://lar5.com/cube/fas1.html
http://lar5.com/cube/fas2.html
http://lar5.com/cube/blox.html

For building the 1x2x2 block, try different strategies. For example,
1) pair corner with edge 2) put the other edge in place (not actual place, it's enough when its main color matches to the center), 3) pair them up for 1x2x2
or:
1) put one edge to its place, 2) pair corner with the other edge, 3) pair them up for 1x2x2.
Then pair the last corner-edge and put it in place to form a 1x2x3 block.
During building the 1x2x2, you can influence the last corner and edge (which will be the last part of the 1x2x3 block).

Also, Gilles has good examples for building the second block:
http://grrroux.free.fr/method/Step_2.html

Experiment with different movements and pairing, and examine others' solves!

Hey, sorry, I'm very new to Roux, and speed cubing in general. I'm wondering what your preferred methods for mid slicing/reverse mid slice, and double mid slice are. I'm just using my right ring and right index for single, and double I don't have a good way to do, I just use right index twice.

M technique: left index pushing from UB to UF; or left ring pushing DB to UB

M' technique: right ring pushing DB to FD

M2 technique: right ring then left ring. Others are able to use double flick incorporating ring and middle of one hand.

Always depends on the current situation, so I chose the most comfortable one from numerous solutions.

M:
a) push DB with left ring finger (common)
b) push BU with right index finger (common)
c) push BU with left index finger (occasional)
d) push FD with left ring finger (rare)
e) Rw' R (rare)

M':
a) push BD with left ring finger (common)
b) push BD with left middle finger (occasional)
c) push BD with left little finger (rare)
d) R' Rw (rare)

M2:
a) double flick: push BD with left little finger + BD with left ring finger (common)
b) push UB with left ring finger (smiliar to L Lw' M') (common)
c) M' with left ring finger twice (occasional)
d) double flick: push BD with left ring finger + BD with right ring finger (rare)
e) R2' Rw2 (rare)

Thank you. I mainly ask because I saw a video where they were using their left thumb on UF for M', and that just feels super weird to me. It looks like that's not too common

Even if it sometimes can be useful, I think it is not very common too, because it results weird holding on the cube. After M' the most probable turn is some kind of U (U' or U2), and the whole turn is more comfortable when you perform the M' with BD pushing instead of FU pushing. Can you link the video?

I'm pretty sure he's referring to Donovan's Rouxtorial from Lubix. I recall him using that thumb technique, but also being quite fast with it.

Block Building Questions:

Hey, I just have a few questions about a specific situation when I'm block building. I will have two edges in place, but not the corner. I'm wondering the best way to slip it in.

If the corner is already oriented perfectly, I do this one:

http://alg.garron.us/?alg=R_U_M_U-_M-_U-_R-&ini=y-_R_U_M_U_M-_U-_R-&stage=F2L

If it's oriented the second best way I do this:

http://alg.garron.us/?alg=U-_R_U_M_..._R-_U-_R_U2_R-_U-_R_U2_M_U_M-_U-_R-&stage=F2L

If it's oriented the worst way I do this:

http://alg.garron.us/?alg=U-_R_U-_M-_R-_U2_M2_r_U_R-&ini=y-_R_U_R-_U-_R_U2_R-_U_R_U-_R-&stage=F2L

Does anyone have any better suggestions? (also, this is my first time messing with alg.garron.us, is there a better stage for Roux than F2L?)

Thanks a bunch! I look forward to learning from your shared experience.

Hello All
I am making a video about what method beginners should choose and I know Roux a little and I need help...
Can anyone give me a Scramble and reconstruction that is working ??'
I searched this : http://cubesolv.es/?solver=&competition=&puzzle=&time-specifier=&time-value=&tags=roux
and I did not find a single scramble that solves the cube (I might be doing it wrong)
So, can anyone give me a scramble and reconstruction that you have solved with for Roux from a list there or any scramble and reconstruction :)
Thanks in advance :)
