I don't believe you. It takes months to learn Roux.;P
Haha. This is my first day of actively trying Roux. I'd read about the Roux method before, so I had a previous idea of how it worked. And of course, my previous experience with CFOP helped me understand general speedcubing stuff.
Don't memorize them. Understand them. It is possible to solve L6E completely intuitive.
I can understand it. But that's more for solving at a slower speed. If I have to stop and think about intuitively doing it, it takes a bit of time. It's good advice; I will try to understand them better, but my main problem isn't understanding how the cycles work. The problem is differentiating the case that needs a clockwise 3 cycle and the one that needs a counterclockwise 3 cycle without pausing.
Cross pieces???
The cross? The first step of CFOP? Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL? Solving 2 blocks instead of the first two layers is the same, except I don't solve the BD and FD edge pieces, which are cross pieces in the CFOP method.
There is nothing in common?
Yes there is. The "dot" case is the equivalent of an H permutation: a diagonal swap of two sets of two pieces. The "half dot" is the equivalent of the E permutation: an adjacent swap of two sets of two pieces. The two FUUU cases are the equivalents of the A permutations: a counterclockwise and a clockwise cycle, respectively, of 3 pieces. And the odds of getting a L4E skip are the same as the odds of getting a CPLL skip.
Edit:
Someone may have already made such a thread, although I looked for one and couldn't find one. But I was wondering if anybody else thinks a "switching methods thread" would be a good idea? It could be both a help thread and an accomplishments thread, and switching methods is difficult and time consuming enough to merit its own thread. If others want something like this as well, I might start one.
