[Help Thread] ZZ and ZB Discussion

Ok. I know 3/4 of the H cases and 2/6 of the pi cases. I'm planning on learning the last H and the rest of the pi cases.

OCLL/PLL is just fine. If you want to get faster, practice F2L more. COLL may or may not shave a tiny amount off your 2H times, but your times will drop fairly fast if you just solve at your speed.

TheNextFeliks's ZZ Guide/Tutorial

Someone PMed me about ZZ. Here is some info I gave them.

First choose an orientation. The best to do for following this tutorial is with White/Yellow on U/D and Green/Blue on F/B. If you do white/yellow U/D and Red/Orange F/B, swap Red/Orange with Green/Blue and vice versa.

How to recognize good and bad edges?

Pieces in the U and D layers:
1. If White or yellow is facing up or down, good
2. If red or orange is facing up or down, bad
3. If white or yellow is facing out (not on U or D), bad

Pieces in E layer:
1. If Red or orange is on F or B, bad
2. If white or yellow is on F or B, good

How to Fix Bad Edges:

Doing an F/F' or a B/B' will change the orientation of the four edges in that layer. So.

4 bad edges:
Put them all in the F or B layer then do an F/F' or a B/B'

2 bad:
Harder to explain. First put one edge in F or B. Then do an F/F' or a B/B'. Replace the first edge with the second edge. Then do another F/F' or B/B'. Example: FR and UR are bad. F' to fix FR. Then U to replace FR with UR. Then do F to fix UR.

6:
I do 4+2
Or do 3+3. Put three in F or B. Next do a F/F'/B/B'. Then, take the newly misoriented edge and the other three bad and solve like 4.

8:
4+4. Either place all 8 bad in F and B then do one turn on each. Sometimes I'll place the bad edges, sometimes I'll put the good edges in the S-layer.

10:
4+4+2. Put two good in S-layer then do a turn on F and B. Then solve the two remaining bad

12:
Rare 4+4+4. Do quarter turn on F and B. Then fix four edges in S-layer. D' R' F2 R2 D2 F would solve it.

ZZF2L Tips:

I am pretty bad at zzf2l. But whatever. If you have, for example, DR paired with DRF, match that block up with FR.

Take advantage of empty slots.

Do one block at a time, not simultaneous. But if you have a good pair for other block it is okay (because it is more efficient).

If you have the back slot open in a block, do an L/R'. First, it gives you better lookahead (don't have to scan the back), also you can just do a U/U'/U2 and an L'/R which saves a move.

So that's all. I'll do an example solve or three later.

Btw, you should at least mention that you can do 6 bad edges by doing 3 while making another bad, then doing 4. In fact this way is much more efficient on average then 4+2.
