[Help Thread] ZZ and ZB Discussion

I think most use their left hand to solve it, partly because blocks aren't solved in order sometimes, causing multiple rotations if you use one of the ways you suggested, which is the very thing ZZ strives to avoid. I use my left hand always for the left side.
Related note, I think most do the z rotation thing for OH, but it doesn't have the best lookahead.

if you solve eoline on left, you can solve f2l with RUD.

that means you can leave your left thumb in position at all times (because it's colinear with the front eoline edge and center). in my opinion, this provides for more ergonomic solves than standard ZZ (where you have to keep changing which thumb grips the front-center piece during f2l).

i know, this was my first idea when i first heard about ZZ, and before i had a really similar idea which lead to my discovery of ZZ... but by now i think that this limits Lookahead for the Block you hold on the downside way too much.

*Bump* I just did an Average of 50 and it turned out i average 38.4 moves for EOLine+F2L when i do slowturning, and 19.5 moves for LL.
probably a bit more on F2L when i solve fast and, a bit less on LL because i force OLL skips pretty often.

Is tht good or bad? what should i work on? i average 14 steadily when im concentrated

that averages to what, like 52 moves per solve, i feel like you could do less, maybe in a combination of both F2L and LL? maybe shave a little bit off of both, F2L can always be improved no?

average of 12 slowturning f2l movecounts: 30.4 *mtm
28, 38(wv), 26, 27, 32, 28, 31, 30, 36, 29, 31, 32(wv)

i think your movecounts are good for a speedsolve. however, for slowturning, you should be able to pick out more efficient inserts and average <35 mtm.

*mtm: atm variation; i only consider moves that can be made simultaneously as 1 move (U/D and F/B but not R/L).

for EOLine + F2l? ill see what i can do :D

EDIT:

mDiPalma, i often do R/L simultaneously (as an M/M') during F2l. consider that :)

ZZ should have its own "Road to Sub-15 Guide" like roux and fridrich. I am starting ZZ now. I know to work on eoline. It makes the difference between 35 seconds and 55 seconds for me.

I know that one was in the works - I was collaborating with someone else, but the other person stopped responding to me. I'll make a thread in the next few hours with what he had and with my edits, as you just motivated me! Thanks!

HI, Im the new ZZer too... avg sub20 right now. This is great idea to make road sub15 or even sub12. We need more material related to ZZ staff.
Also I would like to ask any pro zz user about make some nice avg zz video or example solves. I need to know more tricks :)
Thanks

Check out asmallkitten's channel on YouTube and my channel(uvafan173). In the description for my avg5 that I uploaded a few months ago there are reconstructions that you can look at. If you would like, I could make more example solves. Let me know.
