OT more, what method do you guys suggest?
Should I go sexy or LBL (Dan Brown)

Sexy method is more intuitive. 8355 method (big brother of the sexy method) uses keyhole, which is much better than the method that Dan Brown teaches for F2L.

So either 8355 or Sexy method.

My friends(note my friends, not me) made up a "Mod your cubes club" where people pay a fee to get cubes modded, lubed, etc. 5 dollars a cube, and 15 dollars to get torpedos(we don't have that much). My friend Neil provides screws, springs, sandpaper, and Jigaloo. My friend Alex has Lubix. And that my friend Sandeep is a terrible modder. I just check out the cubes to see the final result

We aren't aloud to make any kind of profit with this... but still interesting =P

I had the club today, and am in a rush to get to baseball, but I wanted to say a few things about it.

It was very relaxed since most of the people were my friends that I convinced to come. But overall, it was lots of fun. Everyone got the cross atleast a couple times, most of them got it a few times (3-5), and my teacher/helper can do the first side. Also, my teacher/helper is doing most of the talking (from a tutorial paper from youcandothecube.com, which is pretty good), and I am doing most of the examples and giving help to everyone who needs it. I think I already know who's gonna turn out the best... Maybe I'm wrong, but there's this really quiet kid, who looked further into the tutorial packet that we handed out, and can get the first side pretty well I think. Which is the best progress by far. That's it for now, since I have to eat dinner and go to baseball, so if you have any questions, just ask.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but here are a few ideas.
Get then on the forum asap, when you start being a part of the community it keeps you motivated because you are like part of something.
Get them to a comp cause they are the coolest things ever.
Show them how good they will get whether that be by means of videos or just a you solving to keep them motivated.
Other then that good job so far and its nice to see people taking initiative to spread cubing around.

It had to be canceled last week because of the teacher's son was in the hospital or something. But today, I had some great news. One of the kids (I think I mentioned earlier that he seemed to have a lot of potential) went ahead and learned in the last two weeks, how to solve the whole cube. I'm not sure how fast he is, since he said he didn't want to time himself yet, but he guessed around 2-3 minutes, which isn't too bad. Also, he ordered a lanlan 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 through amazon, plus a super square-1 (Not sure why... neither of us can solve it). He can solve 2x2 and 3x3, but he just needs to learn parity for 4x4. Again, I think he could get very good... Oh, and what store ships faster to the East Coast of USA? 51morefun.com or pickegg.com? I can get cubes -$5 from both stores (I told the kids to bring $5 next Wednesday, and I'd order a cube for them), so what's faster shipping? Thanks!

I'm not sure about 51 more fun but pick egg took almost 1/2 a month for me because of the bad postal service here (and it has to go through customs). I'm pretty sure 51 more fun charges for shipping so it might be better to order from pick egg.

I know 51morefun costs shipping, but I can still get a cubes for 99 cents w/o shipping, which is like 3 or 4 usd total.

:p I'm in college, but also planning to start a cube club, since I already have many people (from my class, mainly) interested in it. :D Had a talk with an ECA staff/advisor today, and she handed me a sample of a proposal to form a club. If I have any problems/questions or require ideas for the club, is it okay for me to post it here? Thanks :)

Cubing Club, Tips please!

Hey Cubers.

I'm organizing a cube club, and it's all going so quick, I got my first day with the kids tomorrow. I would actually want some tips in running the show, and keeping the interest up.

So far I've decided I will introduce them to the history of a few major puzzles, like tell them why the cube is Rubik's Cube, and give some history, and tell them about the WCA, and just give them the gist.

I would want to teach them a method that is very easy and yet also very easy to transfer into a speecubing method. I don't know their abilities, I do know they all have been fiddling with cubes for 2 or 3 weeks. The kids are like 12-14. I'm 17.

Any recommendations from experienced people?

thanks in advance

I just recently made a series of videos that teaches a very simple form of Roux, and it leads to speed solving Roux method. It sounds like exactly what you could show them. The series is 8 videos long and runs about an hour and 15 minutes, so I don't know if you have that kind of time. If you do, I think it's an awesome beginner's method, and a few other people have successfully used it.

Thanks for the input. I will see on the ability and wished of the kids, we will take a vote and see what method we would use, then I would try learning(I mean teaching them) and who have more trouble I will work with them with the other method group. It will be a lot like a workshop. Sounds good?

Why not teach them both methods and have them choose which they like better?

I did that and I still can't make up my mind. I learn both to some extent, then chose Roux learn most of it, then switched, learned most OLLs and PLLs and then couldn't chose one over the other... So definetly not my type of thing.
