[Help Thread] What method should I use?

Alright, so should I master F2L before moving on to OLL and PLL?

Well, you won't have it mastered to it's full potential for a long time, but I would wait until you at least start to see some improvement in your times before going after 2 Look OLL and PLL.

I agree. When f2l starts feeling natural and it's at least about as fast as using your beginner method, then start learning the last layer. I don't see how you could effectively learn f2l and the last layer at the same time and get enough practice for both of them.

I normally hit sub 30,40 with occasionally 20s

I use intwotative f2l but i do it the rous way (1 by 2 by 2 block and all those but i slot in the 2 edges first leaving a corner pair which i insert it the zb way)

Then i use oll( edges are already solved) then 2 look pll

Should i learn full Zb,Fidrich or Roux?

Maybe zz is what you were meaning not zb?
zz might be worth the effort as well. Petrus can be fast but even the fastest known petrus users are slower than most fast roux and fridrich solvers... if you are making 1x2 block and expanding to 2x2 and completing f2l with edges already oriented, this is basically petrus... if you don't like or struggle with m slice moves, I would learn roux, but it will be difficult to progress until you are comfortable with m moves... zz has a complicated beginning. Some people can't. Learn a fast eo line which makes people struggle with this method. At the same time, zz uses a blockbuilders mentality for f2l as well as has all edges oriented for easy ocll or cll and pll/epll

The problem with these block building methods is that it takes a while to grasp the concept if you have already learned the basics of basic Fridrich.

I have had many friends who tried to switch methods and always went back to the mighty Fridrich method. there are many algorithms that are available to you and many great tutorials. I just find that Petrus and any other of these methods don't compare to Fridrich.

Roux i heard was good but stick to Fridrich, it is a mainstream method and is a method used to get times under 10 seconds easily. also you are most likely to find more people using that method and get tips tricks or hints.

Whatever method suits you you must practice and always get help from a professional experts from users of a that method. If Petrus or roux or Fridrich or any of the other methods seem easier use that method and get fast with it.

This is kind of what I was implying. Trying not to be negative...

Fridrich is a good method, but from what method you currently use, the only similarities are ocll and pll... I honestly think blockbuilding is far superior in the coolness factor... everyone uses fridrich... you have to be sub 10 with fridrich or else, pfft who cares? Sub 10 with roux and automatically you are cooler than everyone else... why not learn?

I'll be another person to suggest Roux. It's definitely more fun to do (for me at least), which is what cubing should be about. You seem to already be doing some block building, so it wouldn't be as difficult of a change for you as it is for some people. Plus, you really don't have that many algorithms to learn (I still use 2-look corners and I've gotten sub-17 averages). In the end though, go for what looks most appealing and fun for you. Other people shouldn't decide your method for you.
