Choosing your cube (Answers for newbs)

Which would be better for me, the A-5 or the F-II if I have no lube?
Which would be better if I just had CRC?

When I say better, I say faster. Because a cube can't get any faster, but your lookahead can always get better.

Depends on where you're getting it. I hear speedcubeshop has it's cubes professionally lubricated with Lubix, one of the newer lubes on the market. It's designed to last a long time, and since AV's dont usually come pre-lubricated, this would be the place to get it.
F-II's come pre-lubricated from everywhere.

But really, just getting CRC will save you quite a bit of trouble. It would last a long time too.

Nice start. Though I don't think you need to mention methods at all in a cube hardware thread - it would certainly stop the derails anyway. I hope you're planning on mentioning the Memory, that can be a confusing one for beginners.

I hear the Guhong isn't too great with CRC but I don't want to throw out my big can of it, or buy some new lube without finishing this stuff. I don't like the idea of the bubbly feel of the FII, should I get the AV or the Alpha Feng V? I might mod the AV once I get it (I practiced on my original storebought) but I don't wanna screw up a good cube. Also, do those come with instructions on how to assemble it (in English)? I'm a little rough too.

Ok, so i'm guessing you're not into the smooth cubes.
I do not yet have an AVF, nor tried one, so I'm not going to state my opinions. But the AV is a great cube, you should definitely go for it. I hear it works great with CRC (Canada doesn't have CRC, unfortunately D: ), and works well with jig-a-loo too, if you have it. I would also go against getting a guhong if you dont have one yet, since you seem to like the rougher cubes. I've modded an AV and let me tell you: It's hard to screw up. Just use sandpaper, and try to sand them as evenly as possible. Also, I doubt it will come with an instruction booklet; most disassembled cubes don't. But there are plenty of tutorials on youtube on assembling cubes.

What do you mean by mentioning it? Like recommending it to beginners, or to have the "memory mod" in my terms and abbreviations section?

what the hell lol.

No Guhong?

yeah, dad dropped me off for swim team practice, it fell out of my pocket and got run over :)

No GuHong. As good a cube as it is, i don't think it should be for beginners. Tensioning it is hard, assembling it is hard (Or time consuming, at least), and I strongly recommend non-sloppy turning. GuHong's incredible corner cutting just attracts inaccurate turning. I mean, at least once accurate turning is a strong part of your cubing foundation, then maybe move to F-II or GuHong/LingYun once you're fast, and lack of corner cutting can be the difference between getting WR average and not getting one.

Get what i'm saying? Probably not >.<
