[Help Thread] Colour Neutrality Discussion

subj) my current averages are near 27-28 sec. should i start being color neutral when i'll get sub-20 averages, or it's ok to start right now?:o

I myself am not color neutral, but it seems to me that being color neutral could greatly decrease your solve time... I would give it a shot and see if it works for you! good luck.

decrease for a little amount of time, but then... :)
for example Felix is color neutral, he consistently gets sub-9 solves now)
i think it's partly because of his color neutrality, that's why i like it:)

depends on your lookahead. If you have a hard time recognizing pieces with your "standard" scheme you will definitely have issues with color neutrality due (at least to start).

You can work on color neutrality anytime you want, but don't expect it to help your times at all. The average number of moves for a fixed cross is 5.81 while the average number of moves for a color neutral cross is 4.81 moves, so we're talking about saving 1 move on average. I am experimenting a little with color neutrality mainly because I have a friend who uses cross on red and I get frustrated while trying to teach him some F2L tricks.

well, Kirjava, i want to be CN not because it's popular, or somethin
i just tried a few neutral crosses, and it's really funny to do f2l with the colors which were seperated, now put together ;) and the same thing for oll and pll)
at the moment, i use white and yellow crosses

and about lookahead. for now, it's not the best, but im working on it, and it's getting better:)

the only reason for asking this question is: when i'll learn new stuff i'll have to apply it to all the colors, which is not very easy.

so i decide for now to learn everything completely, and only THEN to become fully CN :)

thanks everybody, sorry for my bad english :)

Color neutrality basically has nothing to do with Feliks' speed. If you are learning color neutrality because you think it will make you fast like Feliks then you are wasting your time.

The longer you wait the harder it will be to switch. Do it now if you really want to be color neutral.

anyway the only difference CN makes is a slightly shorter cross on average. It's not like CN will magically drop 2 seconds off your time without improving other things first. Rowe and Faz are fast because they turn at ridiculous TPS, not because they are color neutral.

davidwoner, are you CN or not? if yes, was it hard for you to switch and did it certainly influent on your times?

End of the day, Erik Akkersdijk is only yellow/white neutral, while Feliks is completely colour neutral. As previously mentioned in this thread it only a ~1 move advantage over a single colour user. You can still be colour neutral and crap, I should know.

I think color neutrality is useless for mostly everbody, unless you have crazy f2l recognition no matter what color cross you create. If you want to do anything, just alternate between your regular cross color and the opposite of it. However, I don't even do that. I just stick to one color cross.

Meh. I'm working on being dual color neutral (solving white or yellow cross). I doubt I'd be able to switch to full CN since I've been solving white cross from my first solve to now at sub 17...

I would think that color neutral would allow you to use lucky cases (i.e. completed pairs) on say, the green side. If you solve on the white, that wouldn't be possible, and you'd have to go with a less advantageous cross. It's not just a question about the 1 less move, it's also a question of, "how could this help my f2l."

Anyhow, once again I'm not CN, so I wouldn't know :D

...And I'd work on being CN right now if you really must. Trying to work on dual cross and expand from that sounds like the easiest path.
