R2 method for 3bld

Is R2 really as bad as everyone says for 3bld? Also, where can I find learning resources? It seems like all info on R2 has been scrubbed.
R2 was a good method 2 decades back.

I used R2 successfully from 2012-2018 and even got multiple sub-30s using it.

I will not recommend pursuing this method at all in 2026

You can read about this method on the cubinghistory site.

I know this video explains it’s problems, but I can’t remember if it explains the method good enough to learn it.
This video is extremely misleading and made with less effort.

Jack does not understand R2 and R2+ fully and just decided to make a video to milk views.

Over the past few years, I have asked him multiple times to take down the video, he lives in a world of his own and does not know how to professionally reply to any grievances.

Okay, sorry. I myself am not an expert on R2, so I was unaware. Sorry for the misinformation. Thanks for correcting me, though.

R2 is good if you were in the 2010s
You should learn Orozco if you want to improve from OP corners

Well well, got another tipoff of poor behavior online from Abhijeet (abunickabhi).

The video is completely correct and Abhijeet has a history of over 1 year of spiting and defaming Jack for supposedly "putting R2 method that he used before in a bad light".

The replies about not recommending to learn it is correct. But this does not excuse personal attacks and defamation (this is not the first time he has done this on this forum alone).

You're going to have to elaborate if you want people to take this claim seriously. I watched Jack Cai's video in full and it seems largely accurate, even if it is somewhat unfair to compare the original R2 setups/algs against modern, optimised M2 setups.

Note: I will write a detailed answer when I am back home.

Jack completely disregarded the development and optimization of the method, there is no mention of R2+ and its variations. R2 has also been coupled with older forms of 3-style, BH, that was not mentioned at all.

He just showed the method in bad light in order to milk views for his channel.

What enrages me is that he has not corrected the video even showing multiple sources to him, on how superficially he saw the method, and decided to present it in bad light to get views 😞😞

I think it would be popular today if it was U2 instead of R2. U2 is much more ergonomic on modern cubes, with RUD turning instead of RUL (which used to be considered really good back when R2 was invented). With U2, the special algs are last layer algs, so learning extra algs becomes a lot more palatable since they can also be used in sighted solving. Some of them are PLLs and the beginner method corner twist, and you also have some COLLs. U2 is more certainly more complicated than M2, but Orozco corners are also more complicated than Orozco edges and plenty of people use Orozco corners.
