Dayan Guhong V4 Mod Service!

Been doing lots of functional 3D print. Learned early on that making parts look like factory design is bad. The idea for an insert would be something that is flat on top. Print upside down.
Thick enough to transfer energy and then it is ok if it just touches near the outer edges / in the corners. No need to follow the shape if impossible. But is worth a try. A cross would be sufficient.

Problem with center is that it flexes. A hard inflexible plastic (PLA) insert could transfer the energy to near the edges where the cube plastic does not flex.

Tried that. Preformance took a toll
thats kinda how the turning felt

That is not too good  :?
If it is made of ABS and it breaks - I have one. not using it much yet. The GuHong V4M is currently my main. Just tested. I would repair with acetone (dissolves/melts abs) and consider some ABS reinforcement at the risk of destroying it more. Have plenty ABS filament I can use.
say iron the filament to make it flat. Dip in acetone and apply it as super-tape reinforcement.
but that is a repair strategy only. And few people have ABS filament. But it is my preferred.

I was just thinking, in theory you could minimize risk of breaking by drilling the top of the tube in bottom of centers, the tube where the spring is on the outside, screw inside. By drilling it half down, it would no more act as a lever, and still guide the spring and screw. I think 1mm left would be enough, and problem solved.
I do not have access to a drilling machine, but my normal LiIon powered hand-drill should be fine it a 3mm drill or something like that. Would use a metal drill as wood drills would pull too hard.

hmm... Considering it, you then would get problems like what qwr had in one of his rs3m fix attempt videos. good idea though

Yeah, rethinking it, I could see the inner tube is likely hitting the screw when you pull the center out, so would change behavior at least.
If I do that I would have to create a small tube/spacer to go around screw instead.
At least mine is still doing good. And I do have a spare.

not really lol.
Luckily I believe Dayan fixed the problem after a few batches by making the plastic slightly thicker, so I stopped the service.
Not needed. 1st batch was missing washers. Just get a set and problem done. All
Later batches do come with the washers so springs will not carve out plastic from center piece.

Interesting. I’ll have to check both my v4s. I’ve done tons of solving on this cube and never had the issues many reported…maybe mine were from a later batch

My two are without. The one I used the spring carved some plastic out. Borrowed washers from another.
