Is SpeedCubeStore.co.uk FAKE?

From the thread:

Hi,

Yes, I'm sorry to inform you that you did order from a fake store. I know they have shipped some orders.

What payment method did you use?
This is unfortunately a known problem. Many youtubers posted about it in like September. Please do not order from there, they usually scam you out of your money and they have no customer service.

But they are not from the UK, it's a Chinese company. While perhaps not fake, it's not a reliable store and they are misleading people by using a UK URL.

CAn't really help but I feel very sorry for you on spending that much on a cube to have it never arrive. There have been fake sites like this before such as

If your in the UK use Britcubes or Kewbz.uk, as I believe they are legit. If in US use speedcubeshop or the cubicle, in Australia use speedcube.com.au, or daily puzzles

I have recently bought a GAN 356 xs from SpeedCubeStore.co.uk and I was very careful of using a legitimate site, however, I feel like I might have made a mistake and used a fake website.

I have not received any confirmation of order or any tracking details. The payment I made was through Paypal so I know I could raise concern with them should the cube not turn up.

The only thing I got was a receipt from Paypal and the email adress attatched looked like it had nothing to do with the site.

I have no reason to not trust this site but something just doesn't quite sit right with me after ordering.

Has anyone used this site before, or can anyone advise me with what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Since you paid with PayPal, you should be able to file for a claim to get your money back

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have only just discoverd cubing and although this is sad to hear I appreciate the responses.

If I am in the UK and want a GAN 356 xs is there anywhere you can reccomend.

Sorry for the basic questions.

Thanks.

Sorry I only just saw the bottom of your post.

Thank you for the extra purchasing information.

Welcome to the community! Sorry that you're having a bad experience so early on. I'd recommend Britcubes or Kewbzuk, as @GAN 356 X recommended.

If you are in the UK, there's three good options:
https://www.kewbz.co.uk/ (use discount code belgiansc5)

There's also:
https://speedcubing.org/ - They are a little newer.

There's also Chinese stores, they are cheaper, but shipping takes longer:

GAN XS can be bought on amazon as well. I usually shop at Speedcubeshop.com but for a beginner Amazon should do the trick

How long has it been now? Apparently they just have no customer service, and are actually based in China, so it may just be taking a while.

I suspect your cube will turn up eventually but from what I've heard there is a good chance you'll get the wrong one and they won't have any customer service to help you out.
In future I recommend you use speedcubing.org (obviously I am biased since I own that store but we do ship items out quickly and offer competitive prices)

I would really like to know how speedcubestore have managed to get their search results so high up so quickly.

They used to be speedcubeshop.co.uk, so people would click on it thinking it was a UK SCS.

+ some of the posts below that one on the same page

It's not fake or a scam; it's "merely" a terrible web store.

This is certainly not a fake store, they are just not the most reputable. I have ordered stuff from there, and received exactly what I ordered, but I would not do it again. I did not get any updates from them and customer service was a total joke. How long did it estimate that shipping would take? If I were you and looking for cheap prices I would buy from cubezz. Hopefully your cube comes, but I would not get your hopes up.
I've bought from them as well, they own the following websites:

www.cubekicks.com
www.speedcubeuk.com

As you can see they all have similar designs. Again, I have bought from them before and they do actually sell genuine cubes.

It’s fake. Never, ever, ever buy from a website until you can verify it the official website and not a phishing site.

My friend was receiving a Gan RS as a gift for doing well in school, but they didn’t buy directly, they asked a friend to buy, since they didn’t really want to buy from random stores. Guess which store they chose? Yep. They managed to get the money back though.

You can't just make a strong accusation like this without correspondingly strong evidence. Incredibly shady with horrendous customer service perhaps, but I still have yet to see convincing evidence (despite many months of claims from many posters who haven't even ordered from the site!) that it's fake.

(I'm not defending them; I'm fighting against bad epistemology. A lot of people having heard that this site is "fake", but with all the hearsay being traceable back to a small number of SCS-affiliated YouTubers, is extremely not strong evidence.)

By the way, recieved update - took a bit of time to get the money back, and in the midst, they got the RS! So it‘s not a scam can confirm, just based in China, not very reliable, misleading, and has no customer service.
