This thread is for stating your average times and breaking up each step and asking how you could improve. This is not limited to just 3x3 so feel free to ask about any other event. Hopefully it will help people work on the part of their solves that is holding them back.

To start off with:

I average 22 seconds on 3x3 and use CFOP. I know full PLL and am learning full OLL currently. My current splits are:

Cross: 3 seconds
F2L: 10-12 seconds
OLL: 2-4 seconds, depending if I get an OLL I know
PLL: 2 seconds
AUF: 0.5 seconds.
The rest is pausing between the steps, eg recognising cases

I average 23.5 seconds using CFOP. Know full PLL and know 16/18 OLL cases.

Cross: 3-4 seconds
F2L: 10-12
Oll: 2-4
PLL: 3 seconds

Any extra time is on pause probably during pll and f2l.

Any good tips for Cross I just have a hard time making efficient crosses using a lot of the time B moves.

I think it doesn't really help us when you don't include recognition time into your steps. Please really try to figure out how long you need for example to recognize the case and execute the alg because your splits aren't accurate atm.
Also do you mean with AUF only the one after PLL? If so, it is pretty slow, because you already know what to do and one turn can be executed faster.
I really agree with Cubingcubecuber, around 3 seconds for cross is pretty slow. I don't know how efficient your cross normally is, but executing less than 10 moves should be faster. 10-12 seconds for F2L shows that you probably have to work on efficiency and reducing pauses (looking ahead better), because 10s F2L means you need around 2.5s for each pair which definitely has to be improved and I agree with Cubingcubecuber, for the beginning definitely 8-9s F2L.
I think you mean pure execution time for LL. If that is the case, try to drill your OLL algs, they are really slow. 2s to execute an OLL alg you already know, excluding recognition time isn't good at all. Use the page bestsiteever.ru to train recognition and execution of your OLL and PLL algs.
Also for your unknown cases (Idk how many you still have to learn) it is really easy to find out, which off the 7 basic one's show up if you do F sexy F', Fw sexy Fw' or whatever you do to orient the LL edges from a certain angle. I still haven't learned full OLL, I average sub-12 and solve unknown cases usually sub-3, so for people who average worse, it isn't really a bad thing. BUT that you learn full OLL is great and you have to keep it up until you know all of them - I made a big mistake in this case. PLL execution should be sub-2.
So to sum it up:

Cross: 1.8-2.5 is fine, also try on improving cross-f2l transition
F2L: sub-10 or sub-9 probably, look for more efficient solutions for some cases and try to reduce pause between the pairs
OLL: keep it up and learn full OLL, but then it should be sub-3 all the time including recognition time
PLL: drill your algs and train recognition, around sub-3 for recognizing, executing and aligning the layers

use bestsiteever.ru to train recognition and execution of your LL algs - or a similar website

that's all for now, maybe you can give us your splits including pause etc. and say what YOU really want to improve.

Just to clarify, ill include recognition

Cross: 3 seconds
First case recognition 0.5 to 1 second
F2L 9-12 seconds
OLL recognition: 0.5 to 1 second
OLL: 1-2.5 seconds depending if I get a case I know
PLL recognition: 0.5 seconds
PLL: 0.5-2 seconds depending on the case (y'know, n perms take longer than h perms)
AUF: Normally work that out during PLL, so its more like 0.25-0.5 seconds

Of course this depends on the solve, for example I might get a really easy F2L so it might only take 6 seconds, or an easy cross which will take 0.5-1 second. There are still PLL and OLL skips too. On my PB solve cross was around 1 sec, F2L 6 secs, OLL 2 secs, and PLL 1.5 secs cos of a g perm. My transition from Cross to F2L was really smooth and without pause. What took away from the solve was the OLL I didn't know and the g perm, and also that it was full step. There was around 1-2 secs of recognition for OLL and PLL, plus AUF 0.25 making it 12.7 secs in all.

ok so then I would say your LL splits are actually quite good, I think I am only slightly faster.
But you really have to work on your cross and F2L. I quickly timed an Ao12 for cross and cross+1 (without looking for a pair in inspection). I had 1.98 Ao12 for my crosses and 4.20 Ao12 for cross+1 (while I'm not warmed up and my turning is terrible). After that I also tried looking for the first pair in inspection, in 3 out of 12 cases I would've been ably to solve cross+1 blind (I was just to lazy to do it properly in all the scrambles) and had 2.64, 2.39 and 3.35 for them.

It would be nice when you do a video doing an avg. of 5 or so on 3x3 and we can critique them and help you improving, because it is really hard to tell WHAT you really have to improve in F2L and cross with only your average splits

Random observation: some cubers spend a whole cubing career compartmentalising steps this way such that “plan your first pair inspection” is never a thing for them.

If you put your timer away now and focus on a smooth “cross plus first pair” it will benefit you more than anything else. Becoming efficient at oll recognition, oll execution, pll recognition and pll execution are all easy by comparison and you can worry about them later.

The impact planning the first pair has on the solve is massively understated by the whole cubing community and none of the great youtube teachers have ever really made a (good) lesson on this.

I recommend learning this by spending a year on three move crosses with infinite inspection time. Then a year on four move crosses with infinite inspection time. Etc...

Planning the cross and not knowing what to do next is pointless and just relies on luck.

I never did any of this myself. I spent too much time worrying about last layer stuff and now I’m a fifteen second solver struggling to improve on my cross plus f2l which is really bad.

Last Layer is definitely my best part of my solves. I am pretty bad at cross.

But is it possible to do 4 move crosses the every time? Can you still time yourself when working on these things?
