DuckubingCuber347's POGression thread. | Progression threads should be banned || It is finished

I don't know if this has been asked yet lol
WHY SHOULD PROGRESSION THREADS BE BANNED?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

lol just doing a little trolling...
-Phil Swift, creator of the Swift Block
They clutter up the front page. It's the first thing a lot of new members do but they don't do anything interesting and they usually abandon it very quickly.

Then they should make a separate page for just progression threads
Makes the most sense to me ig
Sort of like the Off-topic forum.

I've proposed it a couple times before but I don't know if there's enough support for it. There is also limited updating due to the very small staff.

I'm no longer interested in actively improving at speedcubing (for real this time). I will still attend comps, but I'm really only going to grind for improvement if it has Hungarian Supernova and/or OH as I find them fun when I have motivation.

I do still want to learn more ZBLL subsets and LXS for APB but I'm just going to take my sweet time on them.

Events I'll still do for fun: 3x3
Events I'll practice for for upcoming competitions: Hungarian Supernova, OH
Events that I wouldn't miss: yes.

I'll probably change the name of this thread as it no longer focuses on my progression. I don't even know if I'll update it again lol. Going to try to get into music and poetry as a replacement.

Upcoming competition. I should probably start practicing. The effects of not cubing often are starting to take hold.

Goals:
3x3:
single: sub-9
average: sub-current PR single

5x5: PRs

Pyraminx: idc

Square-1: Sub-15 single and sub-19 average?

I plan on giving away a lot of cubes so if you're planning on being there, be on the lookout.

After nearly 4 years of cubing I have gotten my first sub-5, and with ZZ too! It's not perfect but it's definitely better than I usually do since I've slowed down on cubing. I now have no goals to strive for in cubing. I've achieved sub-10 global (though I've since fallen out of that) and gotten a sub-5 single, one that I am very pleased with. My cubing journey has finally ended.

Then just like off-topic, progression threads will be half dead. I think banning them is a little extreme. Also @VincentCuber, they're not annoying if you don't click on them. (Although I do regret making 5, that probably was'nt the best idea, I've narrowed it down to 2).

Banning is definitely extreme and is not a serious proposition. The argument with just not visiting the progression threads is not valid because there is no algorithm that gives you suggested content. All recent activity is put on the front page. Much of that activity is progression threads like this one. When I visit the forum I like to see interesting discussions or propositions. The progression threads bear no interest with me other than my own and they are not appropriate places for propositions. Because of this, to find interesting and worthwhile content on the forums you must scroll and weed out the progression threads by reading the titles. The current solution to this is view the sub-forums list and go to the sub-forum you would like to visit and there you will find relevant threads but that might take multiple searches if you're interested in looking at various topics.

This is true, but I think that progression threads are still important. I feel like if they were a subforum, they would die immediately.
