so i was calculating my kinchrank based on at home results and i found out my best event is 6x6,which i have a kinchrank of 27.2 in (4:43 mo3)
your kinchrank is calculated like this: WR average/your average x100
post your best event here and your kinchrank in it

FMC, 69.47 (31.67 mean), but Kinch for FMC is broken because FMC has an upper limit of 80, no other event has an upper limit
Non FMC: 3bld, 65.13 (23.8 single)

It really is true that using a kinchrank for a given event doesn't necessarily do very well at telling you how you are at a given event. And FMC really is way off compared to the others. I also have FMC as my best at 75.86. My second is clock at 31.35, which is quite ridiculous - I'm awful at clock and couldn't even make qualification times for it at US Nationals. And third is 5x5x5 at 30.13 - again I wasn't even close to being able to make US Nationals cutoff on 5x5x5. I personally think my actual best event is 5x5x5 BLD, but my kinchrank there is just 26.08 (thank you, Stanley!), which means I have 8 other events with better kinchranks than 5x5x5 BLD.

I disagree actually, I think apart from FMC, it's actually a pretty good indicator. For example, I would argue that you consider an 11 minute 5bld as good (no offence intended here, my times are also similar) because it's good in comparison to other people. However, I'd say a better reflection of skill in an event is to compare yourself to what the potential of the event is. The most accurate measure of this potential is the current WR time. 5bld, for example, is just very very unexplored, which is why 10 minute solves (like mine), which don't take all that much "skill" are WR top 100.
Another example is MBLD for me (28/29 in 58:29), it's my best ranked event (WR20 now, WR12 when I got it), but my Kinch is ~56, which is lower than my Kinch for 3bld (23.8 single, 65.13, not even WR top 50 last I saw), but if you consider what the potential of both those events are (15.50 single; 48 points), you'll see that I have a very very long way to go to become truly world class at MBLD as compared to 3bld.

i only do 3x3 but I really want to try hard a new event and to get really good at it, maybe 5x5
I think you should do Megaminx, but I may be a little biased since Mega is by far my best event and the only one I have an official Kinchrank greater than 50 (although my highest in the weekly comp is Kilominx).

make oh and feet seperate in the poll for the love of god. i do not want to be considered as a person who practices feet
the poll only has a limited number of options so there wasn't really anywhere else to put feet

there are some people that have feet as their best event, and i think it fits well with OH since it's solving with a movement restriction
It’s reasonable to lump them for a poll with limited options. Personally I average around a kinch rank of 21 for feet and 19 for OH. Competition results I think I’m technically best at feet, then 5x5, but I suspect that the slow end of 6x6 is limited more by time limits, I think that’s my best event relative to all cubers.

In terms of rankings, I'm best at Clock—296th in the world for average! But that might not be fair, since Clock is one of the least participated-in events, so I'd go with 3x3, as I think globally sub-11.5 is better than intermediate :)

The cool thing about knichranks is that it doesn't matter how many other people compete in the event! All that it does is directly compare your results to the WR without looking at anyone else.
However, your 3x3 actually has a better kinchrank than your clock (49 vs 51) anyway.

I'm best at megaminx , as that is my best world ranking and it is better than some events that are even less participated in, like clock. I would say that I'm decent at 2x2 and 3x3, but didn't choose that one because I'm trash at 4x4.

He literally explains it in his post. It's the world record average divided by your average and then times 100. So the lower your kinch ranking the better you are.

So suppose your average of 5 for 3x3x3 is 20. Then you divide 5.69 by 20 and then multiply by 100. Which is 28.45.
