What is a good number of moves to be averaging for the second block? Currently I'm averaging about 17, and while that seems a little high I can't seem to get below that without a lucky pair forming.

17 is okay, 15 is really good, anything under that is even better. if you are slow solving, you should be able to sub 15 pretty easily. a lot of it might be building pairs more efficiently or solving the first square a little bit differently to force a good case for the next pair. either way, it will take a good amount of lookahead to utilize cancellations and affecting next pair.

17 is good. I average 16 which is average. 16 lets you have 50 stm average (9-16-10-15). Since its only 1 move, dont worry about it. You will get better with practice.

Hey people!

I'm a CFOP user averaging high 18s with full OLL and PLL. I hate cube rotations in CFOP so I spent the last month learning almost every f2l case rotationless from all angles. As a result, I feel like switching to Roux, as I feel it will suit me more and it definitely looks more fun.

So, if possible, give me a database with all the CMLL algs so I can pick the ones I like.
Also, as I know the basic steps of Roux, are there any tutorials that focus on a more experienced cuber than the beginner?

Thank you guys

this should have most of the cmll used by people.

First question, algdb.net as GuRoux suggested.

Second question, if you can do Roux and know the steps, then you could look at waffo's tutorial. If you think you know everything on there (including how to do LSE reasonably efficiently) then example solves are very good to look at. On this thread there are 71 pages of Roux example solves. You don't have to through all of them (obviously :p), but take a look at some of the more efficient solutions and see if you can follow what they're doing. They might do a different solution to a block compared to what you'd do; if their solution is better, then look at it carefully to see how it works, and start using it in your solves.

1) no
2) practice
3) 4 ish
4) algdb
5) efficuency=9

1) For me; its at first, yes, due to minimal algs; but improvement gets a lot slower down due to heavy reliance on intuition
2) GuRoux's LSE is da best. See Alexander Lau's fingertricks vid on Cubing World
3) No idea, Im not there YET
4) Kirjava's CMLLs, a few from Waffo and a few from Donovan
5) FMC First Block: (r U' r') instead of sledgehammer for Second block

Hi! I switched at around 14 seconds too.

It won't take long to get from your current Roux speed to your current CFOP speed (definitely not as long as it took you with CFOP), but after that it's not really much faster, unless you know where you are slowest. If you know one step is worse than the others, then you can focus on that and improve it, and that will help you get faster.

Firstly, be efficient. Know how to solve all the EO cases optimally (which isn't as hard as it sounds), and learn how to influence ULUR during EO. You can do this by changing some U moves into U's and M's into Ms. Since the ULUR colours are easy to see during LSE, you can track them relatively easily. I find doing lots of slow, untimed solves was helpful for this.

You want your F2B to be roughly half your solve, so 4.5 is a good time to aim for. Maybe 1.5 seconds for FB and 3 for second could be good.

As PDF said in the post two above this, algdb.net is the best website for algs. Most algs from other websites are on there so you don't really need to look at any other sites.

Efficiency is important during your first block. At first, try to plan just the first square during inspection. As you improve, try to influence the pair - again, untimed solves are good for this. You eventually want to be planning the full first block in inspection, but don't worry about that for now.
For second block, again, you definitely want to do slow, untimed solves. I found it helpful to do slow solves where I forced myself to be turning constantly - not completely focussing on effiency, but still looking for cancellations and other tricks I might not see in a speedsolve.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone

I can plan the square in inspection on 90% of all my solves, sometimes, the whole first block too. Though I get stuck right before I start the second block, I waste time in finding and placing the second block bottom layer edge, I usually have to bring it in the U layer using M/M' and then do U'/U R2 to place it correctly. Then I find those pairs easy which have D sticker of corner facing right or left, I make the pair easily using M/M' and then insert it finally, But cases when D sticker of corner is facing up, I find it hard to make the pair efficiently, I continue in the CFOP way then.

I know most of the CMLLs(38 I think), but I have huge pauses in LSE, I hate the cases when there are 2 bad edges, mainly UF|DB , UF|DF and two opp. bad edges on Top layer, any good algs for these? Rest, I think i need to practice more and try more to lookahead into UL/UR edges. I am getting really slow due to M moves in my solves, I can easily do M' and M2' double flick, but M moves are a pain, especially M U2 M when I need to do it for permuting UL/UR edges. I try doing l L' for M, any common fingertrick for M, please suggest.

I push up with my middle finger. I dont know if this is common, though, and I think most people may do it with their ring, but I can transition from M2'/ M' to M easier like that. I know Ross sometimes uses his left index finger, but I don't know if thats good or not, seeing as I've never done it.

i don't think index finger is ever good. truly, you should be as versatile as can be. be able to do it with your ring finger or middle finger. be able to do U with a reverse flick or reverse push, be able to do U2 with both hands, etc. a lot of the times you will get pauses if you only stick to one fingertrick; keep this idea in mind as you do your whole solve.

I try to practice with both hands as much as I can but, still, there are things I'm best at with one or the other. E.g.: U2 (right) doubleflick better than U2' (left), M2 on the other hand I only can do it really well with my left. For M I also use a (left) middle finger push up on DB sticker. I don't really use, but should, other things like U left index push on LBU (I feel awkward and slow) or index (either left or right) M push on BU.

it's alright if you can't do the M moves well with both hands since you rarely need to be "hand neutral" at any time during the solve in respect to M moves. but practice those U moves with both hands, pretty much everything but lse will take less regrips and smoothen out your solve. For me, I U and U' can be done with either hand. i think the LBU and RBU are the best ways to do it so practice that and U2 with both hands. another thing i found useful for cmll and first block is being "hand neutral" for D moves as well. often you will do the horrible B or B' or B2 or F or F' or F2 with these [U,D] hand neutral fingertricks.

i still havent seen any proof of its badness. like, if you have to some awkward reaching thing to pull it down, sure, that sucks, but i only ever use it when it would be awkward to use my other M tricks (which, ill admit is not unoften, but thats okay because i still get the M done just as quickly). my more go-to M tricks are: flicking FD to DB with my right pinky, pushing DB to BU with my right ring, and flicking FD to DB with my right ring. i also do r' R a lot when i need to M into 4c, but thats very bad, do not do!
