Who fast do I have to be for a DIY to make a big difference on my time?

When do you recommend getting one?

I ordered one not too long ago (average around 50s, really bad cube)

Now I've modded my current cube (the DIY didn't arrive yet) and it cut my time by 5 seconds (average that is, not PB)

Get it whenever you feel like it. If your storebought seems good enough, stick with it for awhile. DIY doesn't make much of a difference unless your storebought is really bad.

Considering the fact that many good DIYs are cheaper than storeboughts, if I could go back I would've gotten a DIY to start with. I sort of screwed myself by getting a storebought which cost 15$, then getting a DIY about 3 weeks later which cost $10ish. Type C's on dealextreme are even cheaper, around 6-7$ IIRC. Now my storebought is collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. Not to mention how terrible it was for my wrist trying to turn sides with one finger.

I didn't get my first DIY until I was ~18 seconds. I didn't like it. I then proceeded to get a global sub-15 average with my UNmodded storebought.

Then c4y cubes came out. I got one and have been using that ever since.

Edit:
Not to mention how terrible it was for my wrist trying to turn sides with one finger.
That strengthens your wrists! You're also not a true cuber until you've felt the pains of cubers wrist ;)

Get it when you are around 25 seconds. At least that's what I did. I don't know what time that getting DIY will change your time the most. Just please, oh please, don't get it around 60 seconds.

I got mine around 70 seconds and I'm glad I did. It cut a few seconds off my time, but more importantly it is more fun and enjoyable to use and I have a better time cubing when using it, which helps me practice more often and more efficiently. Is there a crime in that?

Oh yeah. I definately broke in my storebought. And I've felt cuber's wrist. So that makes me a real cuber even though I'm slow, right?

I got mine around 35ish, but a lot of the time, having a diy will slow you down if you aren't precise with turning yet.

@ Jhong253
just random: your sig only applies when you post on other peoples threads. Just random. lql.

i would recommend getting a DIY whenever. Although when you're better (~30) a decrease in time feels better. Do whatever is convenient.
