What's a good 4x4 to start with?

I'm thinking about getting a 4x4, but after having problems with the Rubik's brand, I'm looking for something with a better core, something that actually stays together.

So what's a good brand to start with?

Another vote for the SS V3. You have to break it in for a while, but after that it works like charm. I've also done a mod to reduce locking, and I have to say I'm quite impressed, It's a really nice cube for that price.

when lubed right... its awesome
and stable and good, and feliks uses it.
SS feels unstable, locks hell(IMO)

which mod have you done?

I don't know if it has a name, I figured it out when I disassembled and saw why did it locked. I basically took the inner pieces (Not the cubies themselves) and rounded them a bit with a lime, without changing their size (I mean I limed the corners of the pieces, but not the sides)

I don't know if I'm explaining it right, the next time I take it apart I will do a tutorial on it.

A mini QJ it is good for solving. BEWARE my brothers exploded and my normal QJ exploded also

Just buy a shenshou 4x4 v3 (find "Where to but cubes thread" for where to buy), and people stop bumping. I am not particularly annoyed, but try to lay off the the threads... Youll get too much hate.
