What event will WCA remove next?

Probably 7x7 because it’s harder to scramble. This is just my prediction of what the WCA will do btw please don’t kill me this is not my opinion
Hopefully not because I only just got a 7x7 and I personally think that all the weird events are gone now so I dont think they will remove anything else

If we need to remove some events to make room for new ones, I think it might be interesting to replace 7×7 with the Super FTO (the one with 4 slices) and the 5×5 blind with the FTO blind.

What do you think?

Also, has anyone looked into the FTO FMC theory? I haven't been following what's been going on for over a year.

You saved yourself from the 😡 reaction
7x7 is my best event
It is hard to scramble but worth solving
Look how fast WR holders are
They are neck in neck for this event
Official records are on the verge of sub1:30
Unofficials are already sub1:30
Not only I love it but also these too
People just don't do it enough to see the awesomeness of this event
The focus
The adrenaline
The drive
The determination
The kid sneezing in the background
The passion
The moment of truth
This is my best event and I encourage more of you to actually drill it
Once you get good at it you'll see the center and edges pairing are way more immersive than 5x5

Literally only like, 2 people do Super FTO and FTO BLD.

It says right in the WCA post that 7x7 and 5BLD could be next.
High degrees of similarity between 6x6x6 Cube and 7x7x7 Cube and between 4x4x4 Blindfolded and 5x5x5 Blindfolded point to these events as potentially subject to future changes.
I say remove 6x6, 7x7, and 5BLD. Maybe FMC.

I don't think there is much point to removing 4bld/5bld as they are already pretty much relegated to quiet comps (which doesn't really effect most of the community and can be enjoyed by those interested in the quiet events) or major championships where there are already strict qualification requirements to keep the events from taking too long.

As for 6x6/7x7 I can see the argument for their removal, but again the events are generally non-problematic. While not many people typically compete in them, at least in competitions I have attended they are usually set before/after lunch which simply gives you a longer lunch break and more options to eat if you don't want to compete in them and can often offer a nice rest from competing.

imo there's no reason to remove 6x6, 7x7, or fmc

organizationally they seem quite nonproblematic; 6x6 and 7x7 are especially non-prone to incidents, since misscrambles have almost no effect and are allowed. fmc i also haven't heard anything problematic much, most of the time people write down things correctly and you literally can't even misscramble.

as events they themselves all provide a good amount of variety: fmc i think is pretty clear, 6x6 imo is the first true "big" cube where centers become definitively nontrivial and require blockbuilding and creativity, and partial edges become decently viable. there are also some strategies around triple parity. 7x7 is even more different than 6x6 than 6x6 is to 5x5, as there are WAY more options for blockbuilding which basically like quadruples creativity in centers, and in edges, the theme of capitalizing on luck as much as possible is greatly accentuated by the amount of pieces, and there exists a lot of constant spontaneous decision making that simply isn't present on a large majority of events. finally, of course, the length of these events gives a chance for cubers who have a naturally stronger stamina (as opposed to being able to burst tps, as you can get world class in these events with significantly less than 6 tps) to play to their strengths.

all of these events are also greatly skill based, whereas we already have a ton of luck-based events.

i can't speak about 5bld since i don't know anything about it

You have my approval
Solving cubes that are "truly" big shows skill and that is one reason why I feel so accomplished in big cube events
There is a certain amount of excitement when one move could win everything or lose it all. Skill combined with luck and being competitive with others who feel the same way constitutes to these events being among the peak of cubing in my opinion. We need these big cubes.
I would be so devastated if they are removed I would feel no motivation to become world class or even do different puzzles because I love these the most.

If 7x7 gets removed you and I WILL be founding the 7x7 world association.

There's no reason to be angry. I didn't write that some events have to be replaced. And I don’t think so.
I wrote that if the WCA decides to eliminate some events, I hope they will be replaced by equivalent events with the FTO.
Obviously, it would be better if no events were removed.
