Torpedos in higher order cubes?

Is it possible to add torpedos to higher order cubes. After watching this, I was wondering if this was possible.
So, would it be a good idea to prevent popping?

Like similar style of "mech" like torpedo is possible, but not torpedo's like on the dayan cubes.

I think you would have to design it into the mechanism, and probably just have something which achieves the same effect without being exactly analogous for the mechs which are currently used. Several cubes already have a similar feature, with varying amounts of success depending on how well it was implemented. I've put a little bit of thought into modding the cubes I have to achieve the effect of torpedoes (especially my D+M 4x4), but I don't think I can be easily done, although I noticed that it would be relatively easy to change that mech just a small amount to make it far more stable.

I have thought of this too and the only ways I can see 100% pop resistance would be if the anchors had the side hooks go into the 2x2 shells thus making it impossible to pop.

I don't think that's the solution. As far as I can see, if anything attached to the wing pieces (assuming that's what we're trying to stop popping) goes inside the 2x2x2 shell, the puzzle can no longer function correctly (try visualising what would happen during different twists and you will see the bandaging). They would have to hook under the corners in order to function correctly. One day I may try and do some mod to achieve this, but it would probably take a very large amount of work, and I'm not even sure it can be done.

They tried to do that with the A II by adding hooks, but I don't think they can on 4x4s because they have inner pieces that may interfere with the torpedoes. It may decrease pops, but may worsen inner layer pops

It think it is possible if a 2x2 would be designed like a normal 3x3 in the fact that it is not bandaged. It would have to have the misalignment mechanism of the Shenshou 6x6 if you want an easier to make but poorer turn quality puzzle or a Shenshou 4x4 model misalignment mechanism for a more difficult to make but also a better quality puzzle.

It's not impossible I just has not been made yet. If I knew how to design cubes in solid works and had access to a 3D printer that is at the same if not better quality then the shapeways one. Sadly the only on nearby is one at school which is significantly lower quality then is needed to make these puzzles. It is also not available to me anyway.

I'm not sure you understood what I meant. When going from 2x2x2->4x4x4 you can't hook the wings under the 2x2x2 corners, as the corners would then block some of the movement of the wings. An alternative way to think of this which may help, or may just confuse you more: when you have such a mechanism, the 2x2x2 corners correspond to the 'hidden' pieces inside a 4x4x4. Thought about that way, you can see what would happen if they were not independent of the wings.

I would really like to design my own 4x4x4 too. Next semester in university I'll have more free time, and it has a 3D printer somewhere of unknown quality. I may try and get access to some 3D CAD and the printer, but if I do I doubt that a 4x4x4 would be high up my list of things to make.

I've had a quick look at my D+M 4x4x4 to look at the possibility of modding it so the wings hook under the corners. My initial conclusion is that it would probably be possible, but pretty difficult and take a lot of effort. Still, I'm curious about the result now so I may try some day, although I would probably get a spare one to experiment on rather than use my main. On the subject (sort of), I've modded my D+M already to round the pieces and give it a little bit of reverse cutting, it doesn't improve it a huge amount but it is better.

It annoys me that designs wouldn't have to be much different to be much better.
