The Solve Critique Thread

ok this is me at my absolute worst. I figure if I can get my worst better, then my best will too.
im kinda bummed out about cfop, and I don't want to give it up, but im not very good anymore, and am just getting worse.
sorry about the bad camera, bad quality, bad angle, and the bad solves :)
thanks. critique as much as possible
and idk how to embed videos, sorry.

I am gonna critique... sort of... and praise... sort of. I have checked some solves where you have more or less the same pauses that I have (or slightly smaller but similar) and then you get a 12.xx where I'd get a 20.xx. For me to get a 13.xx (I only have three 12.xx PLL skips) I have to have absolutely no pauses. Or at least I think I don't have them, as I have never happened to be recording when I got a 13.xx full-step.

From the 3 or 4 solves I've watched I'd conclude you have recongnition pauses in LL that are a bit long for your speed and also between F2L pairs. With your TPS and improved recog / lookahead you should be sub-10. But take this with a grain of salt as it is coming from somebody barely sub-20.

hey, thanks. youre the only person who's responded so far, lol, so anything helps.

I dont know much about cfop, but I agree that you have too many pauses. burst tps is only good in certain cases (my LSE :p) but generally, fluidity wins. dont slow down all your turns, but slow a little bit at the end of f2l pairs and on the last few moves of OLLs. (similar to what cyoubx said in his yau vid: turn fast at the beginning of substeps and slow at the end of the substep to have smooth transitions).

So, I have been learning CLL ( I know about half of the algs) , but I seem to be stuck at 5.5 seconds. Any Tips?https://youtu.be/OoAEMY7_GZk

Personally I don't like the LingPo, it locks up too much for me. I prefer the Dayan 2x2. It depends. Try using a Dayan, and see if you get faster times on it.
Learn the rest of CLL. (Yeah I should too :P I know like 35 of them)
Work on your CLL recognition. It is really important.

Hey, I've never posted a solve critique post before. I don't feel stuck, but just wondering what I should focus on. Here are three solves. I have some music in the background.... just because. Thank you in advance

Your TPS is kinda low, you might want to speed up a little bit. Just make sure that you still don't have any pauses during F2L.

Thank you. Are you saying the TPS for the whole solve or just a certain section? If I speed up though I often loose track of F2L pairs. It is definitely getting better through just practice though. :)

Well, mainly I'm talking about cross and LL, but your F2L could be sped up slightly too. If you practice speeding up your TPS, you should also consciously think about look-ahead and try not to lose track of pairs. That part of what I'm doing to get faster, and sub-15 is pretty similar to sub-12 when it comes to how you achieve it.

TPS will come naturally as you practice, and so will look-ahead. However, try to specifically improve your TPS and look-ahead when you are practicing.

Anyone else have some advice :) ?

Not really. I agree that the only thing stopping you from being a bit faster is increasing TPS a bit while maintaining the good lookahead and flow. LL TPS specifically can be improved and, you know, in PLL you don't have anything else to lookahead for. Other than that I wish I had your lookahead and flow but I'm not quite there yet.

You have quite significant pauses during F2L, so try to start to do your F2L 'alg' fast and finish it slowly to increase your lookahead.
On the second solve, I noticed that you occasionally messed up an F2L pair, inserted the other one and then inserted the one that you broke up, try not to do this and rotate instead so that your F2L is more efficient.
You might also want to try solving on other crosses occasionally. You could try to become colour neutral or become dual colour neutral to make use of blocks. On the second solve you had a pretty easy X-cross on yellow since you had a 2x2x1 block that could be utilised easily.
Make sure that all of the OLLs and PLLs that you use are good algs that are relatively fast, a good place to find them is alg.db.
Lastly, try to increase your last layer TPS. Try to drill all of your PLLsand try to get all of them sub 2 which should be relatively easy at your speed.

Phew, awesome post. I am dual color but I tend to check white first. I was working on CN but gave up after getting frustrated with my times. :/

I can't give any advice as I am only dual colour, but at your speed it would be pretty hard to become CN. So you could keep trying with colour neutrality or just stick with dual colour and make sure that you check both white and yellow before doing your cross.
