I'm in Nebraska. (Cue Cyoubx's Friends users laughing at the inside joke.)

But in all seriousness, I had this really cool (or, as suggested by the title, possibly really dumb) idea that I think will really help me improve, and FINALLY allow me to become the best cuber in Nebraska. (Currently I'm in 4th with 20.56 Kinch, so I just need 4.51 more Kinch to take that sweet, sweet #1!)

So here's the premise: There's a 6-part musical masterpiece known as "Everywhere at the end of time" by The Caretaker that's been making its rounds across the Internet the past few years. This work focuses itself on what it's like to be a dementia patient. Because it is really scary the first few listens, I would not recommend it to anyone who is easily frightened or under the age of 14. However, its length is fascinating: 6 hours, 30 minutes, and 31.800 seconds. The first 3 stages are roughly 45 minutes each, with 10-16 songs per stage, and remind one of songs from the 1920s to the 1940s. The last 3 stages, however, consist of 4 20-minute droning, garbled pieces of music each, clocking in at 80 minutes per stage. It may sound like a horrible way to spend one’s afternoon, but I quite like it and think the ending makes it all worth it.

In any case, I thought recently about how much good 6 hours, 30 minutes, and 31.800 seconds could do me for each event. And you know what I think? It's extremely likely that I could get a lot done in that time, and set an innumerable plethora of PBs. Hence my challenge for improvement:

I want to listen to Everywhere at the end of time 17 times this summer, and each time I listen to it, I want to practice a different event, and I want to do it in WCA event order.

Obviously, this will be difficult and arduous for some events. Not for others. For example, I could really use some practice in 2x2 and 6 1/2 hours would help me achieve my 2x2 goals. This will take me roughly 111 hours, which is basically 12 hours a day for 10 days, or 6 hours a day for 17 days. It will most likely take me a couple days for each event. But I'll hopefully get in some valuable practice.
If any of you are up for the same challenge, that'd be pretty cool as well.

Before this, however, I’m planning on finishing 1000 solves on megaminx (200 down, 800 to go!) to get sub-1:00 and doing 1000 solves on clock to get sub-10, followed by 1000 skewb solves to get sub-8, and finishing it off with another 1000 clock solves just to make absolutely sure that nobody can possibly take my clock state record for the next 3 years. (Plus I think it'd be nice to get sub-7 at clock after 3 years of not practicing all that much.)

Lots to do this summer -- I'd better start doing it now! I plan to stream some of my practice sessions so you're free to pop in whenever you want to. I might end up making some music for streams before the big challenge so that I can avoid copyright while also keeping my content interesting.

Now I have two questions.
One for you:
Are you actually going to do BLD while listening to music? I think it would be quite a waste of the practice honestly. Maybe just try to do 6.5 hours of each BLD event without listening to that music?

And one for myself:
Why am I so keen to click on something that says 'The dumbest idea ever'???

(Btw this isn't a dumb idea, it's actually really good)

"I'm in Nebraska" (May 2017)

Although its origins seem to be unclear, the "I'm in Nebraska" meme mostly grew popularity from in the Cyoubx's Friends Facebook group. It is often spammed in the group in posts and comments. This meme led to the Cyoubx's Friends banner to be changed to reading "I'm in Nebraska" in the Comic Sans font with purple color and an orange background, along with the group location which was changed to the state of Nebraska.

I was originally kind of joking about this above, but like I said, this is really good distraction practice for BLD. I have often tried to practice BLD in noisy/distracting environments. A significant amount of practice like this can make your accuracy go up in official competitions (although it can be frustrating while you're practicing :-)).
It's been a long time, so I may be mixing this up, but I thought I remembered that Tim Habermaas, who still holds the longest streak of successful official 3BLD solves at 71 in a row, did some sort of distraction practice.

I pretty much always listen to things like rock music with vocals as it makes bld around people noise a lot eosier

Good point, but I think distraction practice is more important after you reach a reasonable level of expertise (I'm not sure how good of a BLDer White KB already is but if you're a beginner it's not good to start while intentionally distracting yourself)

Jorian Meeuse So originally I was planning on doing a 6:30:00 timer for each listen-through, until...

...Mike Hughey said this lol. I have a terrible success rate right now haha

Exactly. I do actually live in Nebraska, so at first I found the meme offensive, but I've since learned that Nebraska is the 44th best state in the USA by Kinch, out of 50 states + DC (51 total). I have since embraced the joke since I'm an active Cyoubx's Friends member and it's not that bad haha
