sledgehammer.png Getting this case in a solve, do you do a sledgehammer (R' F R F') or do you do (U R U' R')
I know, I know this probably depends on a lot of things but I'm curious to see how many people actually use it, and if you find it faster.

Sledgehammer will skip EO in that case, so I think most people who use edge control would do sledgehammer.

That's only because he set it up with the inverse of sledgehammer...

Most people apply either (U R U' R') or (R' F R F') based on the EO case.

If EO is ignored, I feel that most cubers would favor (U R U' R').

I always use a 2gen solution when I can unless it has something to do with EO or saving a rotation. In this case I would use sledgehammer since it's for EO. If this wasn't the last slot and I got that F2L case I would stick with (U R U' R') unless I wanted to flip the front up or front right edge in which case I would do sledgehammer.

When you use it if the last move to set up the pair is also an R' which makes a smoother R2. This usually happens When I'm solving from behind so would be a L' (L' B L B'). But I'm still new to cubing so I don't plan ahead.

The problem with sledgehammer on front is that it requires a regrip and you have less visibility of the U face for lookahead.
That's probably mostly why I don't use it, when I do the sledgehammer I do it after a half x turn making it pretty much impossible to see the U face, meaning there will almost for sure be a pause.
I sometimes do sledgehammer if my hands are already in that position.

Whether I use sledgehammer or U R U' R' depends on the case. In the case you showed a sledgehammer would skip the OLL so I would definitely use sledgehammer.
