So. This argument is going to be unpopular, but you're welcome to reply however you want.
My argument is this:
In all WCA events, you can tell whether a puzzle is solved or not, but in clock, you can't tell so easily, and this makes it very difficult to watch. Even with say, Megaminx, it's obvious when the puzzle is solved. It's also not a geometric shape compared to every other puzzle that the WCA recognises.
Comment below what you think of this opinion.

It’s very difficult to tell if you’ve done FMC successfully just by your submission.

Anyway I’m more inclined to link other existing threads on this that could be bumped rather than going over the discussion I’ve already had before:

For discussion

For information about clock and why it’s an event

Edit: nevermind I was cringe and had bad opinions in that thread let’s not ever look at it again and discuss here instead

ok sorry. The forum search didn't find those threads.

If you care more about not having the puzzle checked than your solve times, you can make sure that whenever you stop the timer, your clock is facing standing up on the mat.

It wastes a lot of time though, and I’m not saying this is a good idea.

You can definitely take the extra time to ensure it’s solved on both sides before stopping the timer, but like you said, it takes more time.

The risk of DNFing a clock solve is certainly greater, but one can easily get a last second corner twist and DNF something else too.

The argument of uncertain accuracy could be applied to blind events too—should they be events if you can’t 100% ensure the puzzle is solved upon stopping the timer?

I personally think the suspense generated by the fact that you have to flip the clock to check if it's solved is one of the best parts about the event, probably the only event other than I guess blind or maybe FMC where something like this can happen. Also, clock is such a unique event in how it's solved, its shape, and its turning, which just makes it even better, even if it doesn't line up with other events. Especially with the recent surge in fast solves due to everyone picking up 7simul and the changes to pin regulations, the event has become far more popular, so I don't see it going anywhere.

IMO the problem is getting solved by overhead stream cameras.

(IMO) short answer: Clock should be removed. Other answer: Clock OH should be an event in its place.

I guess part of my reasoning is that all the wca puzzles are geometric shapes of some sort…except clock

I hate clock, I've solved it once, I'll never touch it again. It's almost as mundane as magic! The solve is based solely on the ability to do moves quick, not think. There are so many more puzzles out there that deserve a spot in the WCA. If they got one, guess what!? Companies would start making better versions! FTO, Helicopter, Gigaminx, hell, even the Tuttminx!

Get rid of the futile solves and bring in some puzzles that actually require some thought and input a bit of challenge.

For anyone saying clock is mundane, I would say try more advanced methods like 7 Simul, Sheerin, 7 Simul Flip, they are very interesting and way less trivial that flip (not that flip was trivial there are pretty advanced things like corner skips)

you don't need to get rid of clock to add more events...

side note: i've never even touched an fto so take this with a grain of salt, but i think that if fto was added as a wca event times could halve with better hardware and more people practicing it

If clonk wasn't already an event, I definitely wouldn't add it. But now that so many people practice it (and it's quite competitive), I wouldn't take it away. Yes, I completely agree that events should be added (FTO, CH2, MPyra, and more), but clonk doesn't need to be taken away.

also I main clonk lol
