5 weeks until my first XC meet of sophomore year. Summer training started off strong with two 25 mile weeks before getting a minor injury. It unfortunately set me back and I have now done 4,10,18,26, and 30 mile weeks. I have two week left of summer training before practice officially starts. I have been getting strides in much faster than 800 pace and building endurance and speed. The longest run I’ve done do far is only an hour and hopefully I can keep building injury free. My goals this season is to make states, team win at sectionals and 16:45 5k. I’ll make another update here after a 4k time trial in 3 weeks.

Here's my summer update:
I was very inconsistent for June but I locked in after worlds, hitting consistently in the 39-mile per week range. I have a minor injury right now that will keep me out of running until at least next Thursday, but I'm very excited for my first ever XC season. Just got new spikes and I'm loving running more than ever (when I can run).
Goals for the season are just to give 100% effort every race and push myself as much as possible. Another goal is to make every second of every race feel uncomfortable. This will ensure that I am really trying hard this year. One more goal is to make varsity for at least 1 race (top 7). My current PR is a 21:20 but we all know that's pretty bad. That was after track season finished having zero cross country specific training.
I think sub-20 should be pretty easy so I'll set that as an absolute minimum but I think I can push low-19s possibly even a sub-19 if I can really dial in and make sure I am giving 100% effort especially on those speed workouts. I'm planning to do a 2-mile time trial pretty soon so once I get back into the flow of things I can push sub-12.

With that mileage and if your getting speedwork in you’ll be real fast this season. I was also hitting 40 mile weeks last year. If your also doing strides at the end of your easy runs your seasons gonna be your best yet. I had a very similar 5k PR going into my season last year(21:36) and by November I ran 18:09. I didn’t even do strides. Good luck man and keep up the great work.

First XC race tomorrow
Not trying to put too much pressure on myself but ideally sub 20:30 at least would be good for me.
I really just want to be able to stick with the guys I’ve been training with and make sure that I give it 100% effort
I’m both super excited and nervous for this race as this is my first cross country race ever

Don’t worry too much about time as difficulty and length change course to course. Get out there and try to beat those guys you’ve been sticking to. Have fun!
