Ok sorry for the bump I had to log onto my computer. I didn't feel like I would be a help on the team this fall, so I didn't try out. They had a sub-7 minute mile time limit and even though coach said he would let me in if it I didn't make it, I felt like it would be cheap and the other members would view me in a bad light if I took that offer. So I didn't do it. Then I felt really bad after the high of not having to run, and wanted to again. I decided that while I was on my lifting bulk, I would run sometimes to get ready for track. I was doing this when my relative who I convinced to run while I was in 7th grade and has been obsessed with it since told me an alarming story. She had been out of running for several months bc of an injury and came back to terrible shin splints that caused her to have to take another break (this part I already knew ofc). From what I could tell, the coaches had always been supportive of her trying to run even though her body was saying no. But she told me a story of how the coaches were putting her down verbally behind her back, saying things like how she is "annoying" and a "busybody", and "why is she still on the team if she can't run". So she told me this story and my relative who had always been way more into running than me said she was going to quit, which really surprised me. And she did the next day. This made me reconsider getting back into running. Do I come back to a community of runners and coaches who aren't supportive of progress for people who aren't all that great for the sake of a sport I feel refreshing yet so physically demanding to a point where it's not fun sometimes? My answer was no. So I'm sorry, for now I'm not going to come back to a sport that was mean to my relative who was trying to progress, because I'm worried the same thing will happen to me. At the same time, I don't hate running, I still find it enjoyable and there is nothing quite like the feeling of coming home from a morning run and you eat homemade waffles. So I'm sure I'll come back to running, but do it for myself, not exactly for a community that may or may not be toxic. On the flip-side, I have been bulking and lifting bc all my life I've been known as the "stick" "toothpick cut in half" and "chicken limbs". I don't want to be that anymore and want to change my body for the better. On the same note I am excited for basketball season to start. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant.
