[Help Thread] Pyraminx Discussion

Should I use L4e or use top first. I know that most of the pro pyraminxers use L4e, but look at drew brads. I’m more inclined to use tip first but I don’t know if I should. What should I use?

Pros for V first
  • Low move count (14-15 moves)
  • Simple to learn and almost completely intuitive
  • You only need to know LBL and L4E to be fast.
  • Don't need high TPS

Cons for V first
  • Can have awkward fingertricks
  • Since it is based so much on block building, "ugly" scrambles are common (about 1 in 12 solves)
  • For me at least, inspection can take longer.

Pros for Top first
  • Usually good finger tricks
  • Since blocks aren't that important and flipped pieces are good, "ugly" scrambles aren't as common
  • Arguably easier to inspect and thus easier to one look

Cons for Top first
  • Higher move count (15+)
  • Algorithm-based (Honestly, I don't know anyone who likes algs on Pyra)
  • Needs more methods to be viable (1-flip, Keyhole, Oka, WO, Nutella, etc.)

For clarity, I use v-first and average 3.9 on Pyraminx. I think V first and Top first are pretty equal and it just depends on what you are prioritizing.

So I think I’m gonna learn top first, but what order should I learn them in? For example, keyhole, oka, 1-flip, Nutella, WO, or something like that.
I would do keyhole first, then once you get that down learn Oka and 1-flip, and wait to learn anything else until you are sub 5. WO and Nutella (and anything else for that matter) are really only for certain scrambles.

I want to get more into Pyra (Probably because I actually have a great pyraminx), but I don't know what method to use. I use LBL right now, and average about 7 seconds once I'm warmed up. What would be a good intermediate/advanced method that has the least amount of algorithms to learn?

I average 15, need help, don't want to be shamed by everyone

Top pyraminx users know all the major methods, because not all scrambles are best with just one single method. Sometimes LBL is best, sometimes keyhole, sometimes l4e, etc. So learn all of them.

Anyone use nutella? I am seriously considering it. Also, is there any where to see the algs visualized?
