[Help Thread] Pyraminx Discussion

What would be the best pyra method to learn first? Right now I can only solve it by repeatedly doing 3 edge cycles until it's solved but that gives me times around 30 seconds. I would want to get down to around 10-15. Maybe WO? Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find this specific question answered when searching the thread.

Layer by layer!?

To be honest it doesn't really matter. If you to get fast later you have to learn basically a lot of different methods anyway.

I think LBL is a good point to start indeed (and can easily be extended to L4E or something), but you can also just learn keyhole (makes oka or 1-flip easy to understand later).

WO is top-down so... LBL is bottom-up? While I was waiting I already learned WO, as it only takes one easy additional alg and I'm getting around 20 seconds with just a dozen of solves. Will take a look at LBL too.

LBL is very much easier to get faster times at and I recommend it. Though if you want to take pyra very seriously , for now do learn keyhole and lbl both. Once you reach around sub5 seconds , I would consider learning other methods like 1-Flip , WO , Nutella etc.

It's probably advisable to learn 1-flip around 7-10 seconds.

how da heck do you turn the tips fast without taking like 5 seconds?? pls i need help
do i turn them before my solve or after and what is the most efficient way to turn them?

In general, I try (big emphasis on try, since I usually get nervous in comps and forget) to leave only two tips to turn at the end of the solve. I'll do the others at the beginning. Also turning two tips at once helps. Drew Brads has a good video on Cubing World.

Can anyone help me with block building i am having a really hard time with my first layer :D

I tend not to 'build' blocks while solving. There is normally a block of some sort on the puzzle before you start, so firstly, try to make a layer without two edges. Afterwards, just insert the pieces like normal.
If there are no blocks, try to look for 1 move blocks which help the solve, rather than make it awkward or inefficient. Also, try to see your whole layer during inspection (don't use timed inspection at first).
The rest comes down to practice, from doing this, you will learn a handful of tricks. I also found doing your layer 'FMC style', in other words, trying to use as few moves as possible to make a layer. I found that solving 2/3 of a layer, AKA a 'V', took 4-5 moves on average (I use l4e) from just learning a load of tricks from practice and experience.
TL;DR: preserve blocks, be efficient, use inspection wisely, work out tricks to help increase efficiency and practice.
Sorry for the long post, hope this helps.

Then what problem are you having? The video directly addresses your issue.
1: Get a good pyra.
2: Full LL.
3: Practise.
You already have the first 2, so just practise. It also may be that you just aren't particularly fast in general. Work on some other puzzle types and then come back to it. You might be suprised. There is no need to switch methods yet, just learn to build blocks and use inspection well. I average low 6 with LBL.
