After being to many competitions I think the actual numbers are along these lines:
worldwide: 99% can't solve it at all, 1% can solve it with a guide or could solve it in the 80's or knows someone who can do it (sometimes in "like 5 seconds")
WCA-competitions: 45% use a beginners-method (mostly layer by layer), 35% use Fridrich (Cross, 4 pairs, OLL, PLL), 7% use Petrus, 3% use Roux, 5% use Corners first, 5% use another F2L/LL combination
Really fast cubers only: 85% use Fridrich, 5% use Petrus, 5% use Roux, 5% use (partial) ZBF2L/COLL/ZBLL

And the 1% that can solve the cube except for one single corner orientation or something similar and get stuck there without being able to realize that their cube is in unsplvable state because one of their frends jokingly disassembled and reassembled it :p

LOL that has happened to me...

Oh yeah...btw
Fridrich woohoo!

I used to use Petrus, but i got annoyed at the part where you're supposed to correct the edge orientation. i thought fridrich had more freedom in that it doesnt reallly care what you do for F2L because you're going to brute force the LL anyway.

what i find myself doing sometimes is making a square (like in heise) and then using that to make an X-cross. sometimes i insert cross edges after making a few pairs. i'm told this is extremely inefficient, but for some reason i feel compelled to do this and i don't change because i dont want to break already formed corner edge pairs, so i dont make crosses sometimes.

is this wrong?

I think Petrus has a really good idea to solve the cube and it is interesting. I like the idea of switching bad edges very well. A pity i will never switch over to Petrus as i seriously am bad at doing the block. Fridrich has actually taken over my cubing life

(I'm new here)

oh well hai!

welcome to the forums use search function to answer questions you may have and feel free to post a thread if you can't find an answer

you'll find most people here helpful and friendly

and yes this my generic welcome new person message.

Why thank you kind sir!

Roux method......

imo out of the two petrus is a fun method, but it takes a while to get good at block building

YAY ANOTHER ROUX USER :D:D:D

You too?

The number of Roux users is growing :)
Sadly im still pretty bad at building the 1x2x3 blocks. Ill improve eventually.

I look at Roux before. I would have switched in a second but i kind of wanted to utilize those 21 pll's and 7 oll's I know ya know?
