[Help Thread] One-Handed Solving Discussion

You could learn Niklas to avoid the diagonal PLLs. (I know full COLL but only use the sunes full out on 4x4 & 6x6)

Since your question doesn't make any sense, I'll just tell you about handedness in OH.

Most right-handed people do OH with their left hand because their algorithms involve more R moves than L moves. Therefore, it is advantageous to use the left hand so z moves are not needed to do L moves. Personally, I use my left hand because my left hand is bigger than my right hand from playing an instrument.

Any tips for sub-30? I currently average 36.15, is learning more OH PLLs enough?(I know Us, H and use standard algs for Gs, Ra Ja), or do I need to work on general turning in general as well?

That's a fairly specific average...

Both better turning and OH PLL will help you at this stage, but the turning is more important. Just doing a lot more solves will help a lot, but also try practising triggers like sexy move, (R U' R' U')5, U perm etc. These will help you turn faster too.

I would also suggest learning ZZ. It's far easier to fingertrick F2L once you get your EO recognition good, and you could also learn just a few of the easier COLLs if you wanted.

This is Antoine's site. By far the best OH specific site available. OLL, PLL, COLL, 2GLL... go nuts.

I average about 23, so I might not be the best source of info. But the only PLLs I learned OH specific algs for were H, Z, the J's, V and Y. And I only learned easy ones, but the best ones.

Most people will tell you it's more important to work on your turning, in which case, Phil's tutorials are great stuff:

And if you're still interested, both Phil and Antoine have really good OH PLL videos, too.

Thanks both of you for the advice and links, I will try to make the best use of them in the future.

Another tip that I don't see many people giving: use table abuse.
Your cube locks up badly while turning? Instead of wasting many seconds struggling with it in the air, sort it out with the table!
Your alg is a little odd to fingertrick? Table abuse helps. My OH H, E, F and Ga perms are pretty much awful without table abuse. (Note: this doesn't mean you should just use some awful alg and table abuse. Pick good ones, and use table abuse to make them faster, if you can)
