Hello and sorry for bad English!
I play the following game: I mix the cube (3x3) on the „n“ moves and try to get it on the „n“ moves. I succeed at 5 and 6, but at 7 very rare (badly mixed). Is there such a discipline? How many moves do the masters make? I think 8 is impossible!
How long do they do?

I knew it was possible. If someone can find a 20 move solution to a 20 move scramble why not a 10 move solution? it seems very doable

and I'm talking about 1 hour

Harry Savage did this challenge with 17 moves.
It is FMC WR, he found optimal solution within 1 hour.

What a legend, right!??

That's not the same.
In FMC, you are trying as hard as you can to not reverse engineer the scramble--OP is asking from how many moves out can someone reverse the scramble

Why do I think 8 (say 10) is impossible? The algorithm with 2 formulas (1 with 4 moves and 1 with 8 moves, say 10 with twisting) is minimal (invented by Philipp Marshall). If someone does it with 10, then he can solving the cube without formulas, and that's already genius.

I would say that someone who is very good at blockbuilding and seeing spatial relationships, as in roux or Petrus, would be able to do around that number with a bit of luck. I use roux and I think having that background is very helpful.
