[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

What do you guys think about WV for minx? I put the last pair in while orienting all the edges, and with WV I can skip OLL. I never really got around learning/generating them though, I don't even know full WV for 3x3 yet. I'm optimistic on the potential of this substep, but given the number of possible algs and recognition problems it might almost be as daunting as full PLL.
I don't think it's worth it in general, OCLL is pretty easy and there are just sooo many cases for WV.

Yeah, I'll join in on this.

F2L: 23.95
S2L: 25.68
LL: 9.71
Total: 59.34

I need to work on my F2L, It's definitely the thing holding me over 1:00 atm. LL should have been faster IMO, but that will get better as I improve my PLL. Looks like I know what to improve then. ;)

I was thinking about making this thread but i was lazy.

My splits are:
F2L: 33.69
S2L: 46.72
LL: 16.61
Total: 1:37.02

This would be an averagish solve for me

I have website with mega WV somewhere :p

EDIT: http://megaminx.odderen.dk/ only like half of the cases done ;) but if you scroll down you'll see I also added some of the easy MANY corners flipped cases. It has all 0 and 1 corner cases. It has ALMOST all 2 corner cases, and 13 of 3,4 and 5 corners cases

Thanks so much :tu I'll see if I can get around learning some of them.

Personally, I think your f2l needs a little work. It's hard to tell from just one solve, though. My f2l is normally sub-20 on good solves, and sub-15 on REALLY good solves. Maybe the LL a little bit, and probably the s2l too. But I think mostly F2L and S2L.

Yup. I talked to Kee Yen (AsR holder) a while back and he said sub20 F2L has high chances of sub1 solves. Balint himself average ~15 on F2L.

And my splits are approx:

star: 8.5
F2L: 16.8
Blocks: 29.8
2nd F2L: 14.2
LL: 13

Total: 1:22.3

crappy solve, but the splits are a good indicator. I didn't know how to time them so I used my phone :S

I did some splits yesterday:

F2L: 18 (pretty damn bad, used to be 16....)
S2L-LF: 23 (should be sub 20, but ok :) )
L2F: 15 (that's good I would say)
total: 56 avg

What's up with color neutrality on megaminx? I'm color neutral on it and people tell me that's not good or something like that.

People are silly. It's good, but not necessarily as helpful as on 3x3. I would say to stick with it. Some people advocate a fixed colour-order, but that's just silly.

I still say what I always have said, I'm not good at megaminx, everyone else just suck big time at it. There's like 2-3 good megaminxers out there, one of them doesn't even go to competitions!

I think with just a little practice, anyone can be sub-1:30, but to be sub-1 or even sub-1:10, you need to either practice a lot, or be naturally good at it. But I wouldn't go so far to say that anyone is good or not, it's completely relative to one's own skill level. Just my two cents, lol.

Different minds, different opinions. But seriously, that was just a troll answer to Mike's answer to my troll post. However, I would go as far as you are not good before sub 1, and you are "not good" when you are not sub 1:20 between 1:00 and 1:20 you are "almost good". (my serious 2 cents)
