[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

Can someone help me out? I want to average a time of something under 3 minutes on my Megaminx, but my fastest time right now is only under 4. I don’t know how to improve my score, so are there any strategies other than practicing more? I spend most of my time looking for pieces on the cube -_-

At 4 minutes, there really isn’t anything that you can do except practice. If your problem is looking for pieces, then you could try doing slow solves, but there isn’t anything that you can learn to make you better. Even with me, averaging about 2 minutes, just doing solves is the best thing to do.

I actually average 1:30 secs on megaminx but I think I spend those 30 secs on the last layer because I dont know the whole algs for the LL , do you guys know any place to find the algs ? And will I be sub 1 after learning full OLL and PLL ?

Algs are on speedcubedb as of recently, but you're probably not going to save 30s by learning full OLL and PLL unless your last layer is REALLY bad. You could try timing solves without last layer to see when you reach last layer, then add like 6 for an average two-look LL.

Hey y’all and happy Sunday! I’m having trouble solving my megaminx, I’m able to solve my 3x3 and I’m improving my F2L, but I’m noticing that I’m only able to solve 6 sides and then as I move on to the 7th side I begin unsolving my other sides.. does anyone know of any guides( preferably videos) that best explains this?

I am deeply sorry for my rudeness, but I am unsure how you manage this.
Do you solve the six sides that are on the lower half of the Minx? Because if you do, it's just F2L Part 1 and F2L Part 2.

Any tips for lookahead in F2L/S2L? I can do the steps at a decent speed, but I have trouble getting used to being able to rotate the puzzle around while I solve my pairs without looking at them. Any tips in doing that?
I am not the best person to give you tips on that because I have the same problem BUT
I heard that tending to solve a fixed order of pieces can help

besides that, tons of practice will do the trick

If you can't already, make sure you can solve pairs without looking at them. Then imo the most important thing is knowing which pieces you're looking for. If you have to look at the centers or something to figure out which pieces you need next, there's no way you can solve without pausing. Know which pieces go with each side and look for any of those. A fixed order can help with that, which is why I really like it. Also, you should do your best to remember about any pieces that go in the current side that you notice. Even if you find pieces from three different pairs, try to remember roughly where they are so you can find them more easily later. This was kind of a ramble but I hope this helps some.

What should I be working on for sub-2? I know 4LLL, a bit fairly, I know EO and EP, some CO cases but I still use Corner commutators for the last corners. I currently average around 2:30.

Just do more solves. Try to plan more of the star, learn some more efficient pair insertions. Watch example solves and do untimed solves and think about each move you do and try to find more creative and efficient solutions.
