[Help Thread] Megaminx Discussion

Mega sound cool! I need a decent megaminx with medium strong magnets, or no magnets at all (imo magnets are a waste of money if they are light) and budget
Btw my hands are teeny tiny so no YuHu

I am not sure why you think magnets are a waste of money, but I guess you could get the ylm (not sure if it is big like the yuhu but I think it isn't) Or Galaxy V2 M if you don't mind paying a little more.

I was talking about light magnets, because you are paying for it even though it's barely noticeable

The biggest reason for magnets in a mega is to prevent unintentional turns; they may be unnoticeable during normal turning, but who cares about that when you get to do turns without having to worry about accidentally misaligning the bottom layers? Even weak magnets can help quite a lot here.

So I average on a good day, around sub-4 minutes on megaminx and I am looking to get faster at it. You can post OLL/PLL algorithms or F2L/S2L trick or just some cross tips. I dont care; I just want to get faster at megaminx. My PB is 2:34.86 as of writing this and I hope to get my first sub-2:30 solve very soon.

Have fun!

2:07 ao5 with my megaminx method(around ~9 seconds slower than i am with westlund)
im pretty sure this is better than megapetrus,
as EO affects 3 sides instead of two, and because the two sides are L R you can always see every unsolved peice(unlike spike)
EO is ZZ style it is also easier than spikes because there are many less peices.(also has better lookahead during both EO and last three sides)

For the main question, you can get sub-2 with practice, and maybe some tricks(on youtube or speedsolving). But I do agree that you should do your research before asking a question.

sorry if you got confused by my average post,
accidentally typed 1:07 instead of 2:07,
here are the steps more directly..,
1.F2l
2.Solve two adjacent balint blocks(look it up on wiki) orange+green for example,
than solve the pair inbetween the two blocks.
3.rotate to have the block in back (facing white if you did orange and green)
and solve another balint block on that side.
4. use top layer to orient the R L and U edges(like ZZ-spike)
you can tell if they are oriented like this-
all of the blue/pink are white or gray top/if you put them to there correct sides are matching that color(or the other)((blue/pink))
and gray are facing towards the top.
this recog gets easier over time
the two basic algs for edge orientation are
F U R U' R F'
and
F R U R' U' F'
1st flips two edges next to eachother
2nd flips two edges "opposite" you'll see what i mean if you try doing the algs on a solved/ top layer oriented megaminx.

I know it was a typo.
I am confused with the balliant block so if you can make a video, please do.
I know how to orient edges but having alot edges to orient can sometimes be confusing.
I have known the basic algs for 2 years but i dont care if you post them on here.
Thanks for the tip and please do make a video about balliant blocks.

I just got started on Megaminx and currently average around 5:30. Aside from just doing a bunch of solves and practice, what should I be working on improving right now? Are there any resources for improving my general grip and finger tricks? When doing F2L, should I always hold my first star down?

Practice is relatively more important for megaminx than for other puzzles. For F2L it's not as important to hold the star on the bottom, there are a lot more places to look for pieces. I do hold my last layer on top doing S2L, though. Take what I say with a grain of salt: I think I got my first Megaminx in 2014 and I average about 2:30-2:40.
