Is the Fridrich method really the fastest way to solve a 3x3 cube?

Then maybe, let us say that it has the most potential...

Kir just wants you to say more stupid stuff :P

Just so you know, correlation =/= proof. You can't deduce anything from lots of people using Fridrich. You can only really talk about certain elements of it in relation to other methods. And no, being 'faster' is not one of them.

But then roux wouldn't be special :(

anyway as others have said before, a fast method would generally require more algs (or maybe some incredible lookahead), but have to also be practical for us humans to learn. Although in my opinion people really are pushing the limits learning ZBLL. Being even more efficient (were only talking about building onto the boring old CFOP here of course), is possible but woul require more algs. Now are people willing to learn these?
Thats the thing about practicality.

I wonder if BigGreen was doing his thing a few years ago and say Faz, Rowe, et al. never got into cubing, if everyone now a days would be doing Roux?

Maybe, but Roux is a little more difficult than CFOP and many people learn to solve the cube layer by layer.

Gilles himself was unofficially #2 in the world for a little while and his method still didn't really take off then.

Meh, so many people only care about the WR. Giovanni Contardi is officially #2 in the world, and his is not a name I hear very often at all; I wonder how many people on this site have not even heard of him...
