How Long Does It Take to...?

nice sites but baums f2l involves really silly cube turns which i think are unecessary dont you guys think?...are there any that sit well with fingertricks?...i kno dans do but anymore?

obviously fingertricks play into the times alot, but how long i did u to get good at the fingertricks and still be able to execute f2l cleanly? As in how long did it take u to get those times? oh and btw i love those whose line is it anyway videos on youtube you put up Sa967st lol

Took me a year and a month. But that's all the way from the beginning of my cubing career.

ok thx....how long did it take you to know all the plls?......i do 2 look oll and 2 look pll so i only have 6 cases to know! :)....but i wanna get alot better times!

I learned them in 3 days.

Well, those cube rotations, by looking at what they do, are basically just making the F turns into R's....things like that. You can change the Alg for your bidding.

I'm more like a 40-50s solver. My last avg of 5 was 44.37 with one lucky case being down to 40.2secs

I just started F2L intuitively (no algorithms known really) about a week ago. With it I get 50-1min total time to solve, meaning right now it slows me down. I'm thinking of learning the 41 cases though, any advice on that?

i tried but like this is just a for instance....how would i change the alg to get rid of the "y" cube rotations? R U' R' U y' R' U R
y' R' U R U' y R U' R'

Most of the people I know who went the alg F2L route instead of intuitive got sub-20 in 2 months, so if you can handle the memorization, I say go for it.
According to most of them, by the time you finish learning all of the cases anyway, you will already intuitively understand how they work.

It has the added advantage that since you're just drilling an alg instead of trying to figure out how to set-up the CE pairs, you won't be watching the pairs, so lookahead comes much more easier, and you learn lookahead much more naturally (and earlier).

Would you prefer this alg without cube rotations?
(R U' R' U) F' U F
The last three moves are very cumbersome and much slower than the trigger (R' U R).
The cube rotations make the algorithm's execution MUCH faster.
I suggest you learn finger tricks first before calling the cube rotations "silly".
(although if you find a finger trick for F' U F that is as fast execution-wise as R' U R, kudos to you).

Personally, I would remove the cube rotation by doing (R U' R' U2) (F R' F' R) ...but you can't do that all of the time.
And then, there's also R U' R' d R' U R , but a lot of people aren't comfortable with "d" turns.

awesome it worked!..thx!...its just i really dislike cube rotations, its not that there bad when doing f2l in fact some algorithms that require cube rotations can provide a great lookahead but its just my personal preference not to have them.....how did you kno that alg? or was it just knowledge of the cube?

I havent been cubing much lately, but when I was making some pretty steady progress with my average I usually had Cross + F2L done in about 10-12 seconds. Some of my best solves were Cross + F2L in 7 or 8 seconds.

My PLL is ok - id say usually 3 seconds.

OLL lets me down though as I only know about 1/2 the cases :(

13 second f2l, 4-5 second LL
actually cross itself takes me 3 :( I have issues with preinspection. With or without, I still get 3
