How do you mirror algorithms?

If you find a case thats horizontally or vertically mirrored to a case you have an algorithm for, how do you change the algorithm for it to work?

but whats the theory behind it?

This is just a case of general cube understanding.
Don't worry, it comes with time and practice :)

The case(s) you presented are the same case, just with different colors.
In PBL this is:
U Adjacent swap, D adjecent swap; set up with "two bars in front"

As far as mirroring algs goes: check Chris' pages on Speedcubing.com. There should be a great page on translating algs.

For simple L / R mirrors: just perform your regular alg but with the other hand :)
I do this with N, J, T, U and A-perms
